Making Iron Bottom Shiny |
I have a Laurastar iron which is good but the bottom of the iron has become dull. I have tried to use a wax stick to make it shiny again but it does not work. Any ideas?

I can't understand why somebody would spend upwards of two grand on a home iron, but there are special cleaning pads made for these irons, a pittance (compared to the iron) at $19 or so. Candle wax sounds like a bad idea, as it would get into the steam vents and come off on clothes later.

This only works if your iron has an all metal bottom. Do not use on an iron with "teflon" type non-stick finish on the bottom. Lay a brown paper sack on your ironing board. Dump several tablespoons of table salt on the sack. Heat your iron to "cotton" temperature (NO STEAM) and iron back and forth on the salt. My mother taught me this one about 60 years ago!
