You don't state your ages, that could help us. I will just suggest one I have used on my kids on their 21st birthdays. I got 21 pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and half dollars. Then I got a box big enough to tape the coins one at a time to bottom, sides, and top of box. To use the money, the receiver has to untape each coin. My kids thought it was a blast. He might to.

I would have to say that you should just try and ask him what he would like but dont make it look like your asking that. Or if you know his clothes size buy him a nice outfit and take him out to eat. :)

Request: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Archived on 11/02/2009

I just started dating this guy 3 weeks ago. His birthday is October 8 and he is turning 22. I want to get him something really amazing. Any ideas?

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Suggestion: Don't make it too amazing. He may think you are getting too close too soon. You don't want to scare him away. What is he interested in? Sports? That would be your answer, and it would also let him know you are really thinking and listening to him. A hobby? Again something to add to his collection or help him do whatever he loves to do. Really listen to him and find out more about him and then go from there. The listening is the best thing you could give him. (09/08/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

I agree, nothing amazing or you'll come across as a little more serious than he may be. Personally, I wouldn't do more than mailing a card or e-mailing a simple happy birthday. (09/09/2009)

By TXBetty

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

And if you do amazing this early on he may take that as "she's an easy mark" and take advantage of you and mooch :-( There's no way to truly know a person and how they think so early on, so just give him a nice card and "maybe" an inexpensive meal. (09/09/2009)

By Deeli

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Three weeks dating is too soon for amazing. Also, before anyone can give a good suggestion, we need to know more about a person. Some guys like cars, some are into clothes, some sports, some art, well you get the picture. This way you can get a gift without getting too "amazing" he might enjoy. Example, baseball hat from the team he likes, a shirt, poster, or drawing pad, car waxing kit, the list goes on when you know the person well. (09/09/2009)

By rainy21

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Wow, rainy21 said it so well. I agree with all you said. A generic gift may not get the "amazing" factor. Does a 3 week relationship even warrant "amazing"? Find out what he collects. Favorite store? (09/10/2009)

My boy friend is turning 19 on July 28th and I don't know what to get him at all. My budget is only about $20. He is an outdoor boy. He is not much into cologne and jewelery and that kinda stuff. And I can't think of any DVDs he would be much into right now. I would like to get him something unique and cute. Or make something. Anybody have any ideas?

How about a baseball cap? A tee-shirt. A fancy cake and a picnic. (07/27/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

I know you said no movies, but "The Great Outdoors" is an excellent movie for a outdoors person. It's hilarious as well. A fishing pole would do for any guy whose outdoorsy. A t-shirt from Bass Pro Shops (can get em online). (07/27/2009)

A wind up flashlight? (07/27/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

One thing any outdoors guy really appreciates is a good pocket knife. Even if he has one, or a dozen, a new one is always a super gift. Sometimes one with only 2 blades is perfect, not bulging in the pocket like a Swiss army knife would do, but always there for whittling, cutting a stray thread, and yes, they do clean under their fingernails with them also. Just an idea, but having raised four daughters, and three sons, this subject has come up on more than one occasion. (07/27/2009)

By LJF

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Bake him a cake or a big batch of his favorite cookies. Make him a special card. Home made gifts are better because of the love you put in to them with the $20, you can take him out for a burger. (07/28/2009)

My first Christmas with the man who would a year later become my husband I had no clue what to get him. I decided on a movie. Less than 20 bucks, sometimes much less. (06/12/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Usually men have so sort of passion/addiction. It may be cars (classic, new, hot rods) or maybe even wood working. I once got a car fanatic a subscription to a magazine and got him a few things for his car that were small, placed one magazine in a car wash bucket along with knick-knacks for his hobby and he was happy with it.

But then my hubby's Bday was last Friday and I woke him up with coffee and rubbed his back til he woke up really well. I made his favorite foods and the man felt like a king and tried to claim the whole weekend as his birthday. (06/13/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

  • How about taking him on a picnic with a birthday cake?
  • A team sports cap?
  • A CD of the things you like to listen to?
  • A framed picture of the 2 of you? (06/13/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Toys. Whatever his fancy, get it in the toy store/section. Also, try the Hobby Store. To better assist you I would need to know more about his likes. Consider reposting with some BF details of his interests and character. I am very good at gifting, even for knowing very little about a person. Try shopping and listen to your intuition, turn off the noise and just release the stress of it. Flow through things you know he's into and follow that. Maybe make him something? Picnic, check town events (free or low cost), make dinner, and go to his favorite book/comic store? (06/13/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

You didn't give an age so not sure if this will help you. If your boyfriend has a dog or cat he adores start a scrapbook for him based on the dog or cat. There are sites on the web you can use to help you design pages and add photos to the pages from ones you might have of the pet or can obtain copies from his family. I did this for one of my husband's Christmas presents last year, we have a dog. I also got a coffee mug with dog's picture on it and a tree ornament that is tiny frame and put the dog's picture in it, too.

If your boyfriend has any children you could do this with his children being the subject of the scrapbook or photo on a mug. You can also get favorite photos etched in quartz (with lighted bases for viewing) done. That was also one of his Christmas presents. The scrapbook is an on going process for I only started with four pages and then added as a great photo came up to use on a page. (06/13/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Why not prepare a nice dinner and eat by candlelight. Maybe even bake his favorite cake or dessert. Give him a massage and maybe even wash and vacuum out his car for him. These things would cost little, but would certainly mean a lot. (06/15/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

It might be too late to offer suggestions, but a $5 or $10 gift card to a Subway, McDonald's or other favorite fast-food place might be useful. It's not lovey dovey by any means and it shows that you were considering his favorite place. Good luck. (06/18/2009)

It's my boyfriend's birthday next month and I'm not quite sure what to get him. We have only been together for about a month, so I don't want to do anything too "lovey dovey", but I also don't have a ton of cash to spend on him. Any ideas?

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Things like a key chain, CD, DVD, if you know how to make those friendship bracelets out of threads that are woven together. Would be nice because you had made it. Even a few flowers. I know a couple that are about the age of my daughters (40s), that when they were in their 20s, and dating a few months, the woman had a big bouquet of flowers and balloons delivered to the man at work for Valentines Day. He said he got a lot of teasing from co-workers, and it was a surprise, but he said he was really impressed because he had never thought of women sending men flowers.

This couple has now been married about 20 years. If you would want to do this being you haven't been dating long, you could go and pick out a few flowers and arrange them in a vase yourself, and hand deliver them, you would be saving money by not having them delivered. (06/03/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Have a date at home: Cook his favorite dinner and rent a movie that he would like. Or make him a basket of his favorite cookies or brownies. My husband loves pie, so for his birthday I make him his own pie that he doesn't have to share with anyone (but he usually does). (06/03/2009)

Gift card for a CD store plus something small and personal like the friendship bracelet mentioned above (06/04/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

One you just mentioned him only dating you for a month so I wouldn't take him home quiet yet unless you really liked him. Taking someone home means that you really like the person. Course I'm old fashioned.

CD idea was good, I think music, or a gift certificate would be the best choice. If you took him to a movie that might mean you like him more then what it sounds like you do. Guys also like going to the gym so maybe a session with the local gym might work. Or something for his car like a book of car washes, etc. Can you tell I have 3 brothers at home? (06/05/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

You don't state your ages, but this would work for any age. Gift: you pay for the date, buy gift certificates for a favorite restaurant or fast food place, and movie theater or bowling alley, etc., whatever you two usually like to do. Then give him the certificates and say "Happy Birthday, My Treat". (06/05/2009)

I would try to ask his friends what he likes, maybe a video game, CD, or if you want to be romantic a mixed CD of favorite songs. (10/14/2007)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

It really depends on how long you've been boyfriend and girlfriend and what your interest are. Do you talk about books, music, or some kind of sport? How about taking the plunge and spending a day doing one of his hobbies (golf, photo taking, etc)? Take advantage to get to know him more. (10/14/2007)

By Tracy In NH

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

I second the personalized CD idea, it's a classic. Also, depending on the weather where you live, maybe you could make a picnic for him. Pack sandwiches, a few deviled eggs, banana bread or snack cakes. A parent could drive you to a park, or if you live close enough you could walk. If there aren't any parks, there's always the yard under a tree with pretty turning leaves.

If you have no time, but a little extra money, gift cards are always a good idea. Best buy for music gifts cards, NewEgg.com if he's a geek, Borders if he's a book worm, Dick's sporting goods if he's a jock. You get the idea. (10/15/2007)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

My son is 13, I think a good gift would be a gift certificate for a local movie rental place to rent a game or movie. Just have them put enough on there to rent maybe 2 games and put it in a bag with a bottle of his favorite Coke and maybe a snack. (10/16/2007)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

What about a scrapbook? Fill it with pictures, old movie tickets, chocolate wrappers, etc. Or buy a plain t-shirt and decorate it with a Sharpie. You can make it so he can wear it every day, or write "birthday boy" on it with balloons, etc. and make him wear it on his birthday. He may be reluctant, but it would be fun, even if he doesn't admit it. I make my boyfriend "friendship" bracelets and he loves them. They're easy to make and aren't girlish or feminine at all if you use the right colors. Hope this helps. (06/23/2008)

My boyfriend and I have been dating for 3 years. He is now turning 17, I'm 16. For his birthday I made him his own board game. I used a poster board and all kinds of stuff. It's great to drag out and play. He loved it. (07/07/2008)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Get a cute leather wallet from some place like Fossil. Relatively priced, and really nice looking. Guys always need a new wallet. (08/24/2008)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

On my boyfriend's 18th birthday I went down to his school (we live in 2 different cities, 40 miles apart), and I filled his truck up with his favorite colored balloons, that way when he opened the door they all came pouring out. Also, I hid 18 of his presents inside the truck for him to find, and tagged all of his windows. He loved it. (10/15/2008)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Get a stuffed animal (you can get one cheap from the Dollar store or spend money on a nicer one) and personalize it. Have it hold a love note or a gift card. If you have Velcro cut open a seam and stuff it with money, candy, or reasons why you love him and then Velcro the opening shut. If you can sew make it a cute personalized shirt ("I love you" or something to match a shirt your boyfriend wears or his favorite sports team) (10/25/2008)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Make a collage. Cut out pictures and words from a magazine and glue them on a piece of construction paper. You can make it romantic, or if you're in a new relationship you can make it more like a birthday card. (10/25/2008)

well,

I made my boyfriend a scrap-box instead of scrapbook, because there are big objects he and I value that would not fit on a scrapbook. It's a cute idea. Also, you can make a map of all the places you and he have been together, and be really creative with it. (11/22/2008)

My boyfriend's birthday is in a few days. He loves music so I got him an I pod? Maybe that will help. (11/30/2008)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

I would suggest just hanging out with him for the day letting him pick where you go and what you do. Then its a win, win situation because you get to spend all day with your boyfriend. (11/30/2008)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

I'm 15 and I've just gotten my boyfriend a personalized bracelet sort of thing for his birthday. It's actually quite cute since it has a rectangular plate on it and his name is engraved on the front and mine on the back. (12/12/2008)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

I've been dating my boyfriend for about 8 months now and I was so puzzled on what to get him. He's turning 17 soon and is a major rock and roll freak. I decided to buy a fleece blanket of his favorite band (Guns n Roses) and another solid color fleece and make him one of those tie blankets. It's pretty simple and he loved it. He sleeps with it in his bed every night. It's cheap and only costs a little. It's also personalized so it will mean more. (01/01/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

I was thinking of taking my boyfriend who is turning seventeen, for a day or two of snowboarding. He's never tried it before and I figured I'd teach him. It's a fun and new experience for him. As long as we're together I know he'll enjoy it.

Find something fun and exciting the both of you can do, if you don't have any materialistic gift ideas to give to him. An entire day spent with him is one he'll love, at least I know my boyfriend would. (01/02/2009)

RE: Birthday Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

So my boyfriend's birthday is coming up so I was looking on this site for help. Some really cute ideas. This is what I did for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day, but it would totally work for a birthday, too.

Our first date we went to a Japanese steakhouse place, so I first made (I tried but was no good at it) so then I bought fortune cookies. I then took all the old fortunes out and put in things we had done together in as the fortunes. He loved it and every time he eats one, he calls and tells me which one it was. I was so happy with how it turned out. Hope that helps. (02/23/2009)
