Want to plan a fun, active party? A summer Olympics party will get you and your guests moving!

Decorations

  • Flags from different countries to hang on the fence
  • Olympic rings can be made from colored posterboard
  • Red, white, and blue banners and bunting should be easy to obtain during the summer, with all the patriotic holidays!

Dress Code

Guests should arrive in track suits and warm-up gear. Sneakers are a must! Families or groups of friends may choose to represent a country together, or each guest may be an independent competitor.

Menu

Healthy food is a must for the athletes! You don't want to offer anything too heavy before taking part in the games; save the feast for once the games have closed.

  • Cut veggies and low-fat dip -- buy a premade tray at the grocery store to save time.
  • Sliced fruit -- buying a premade tray at the grocery store will save you time and effort.
  • Granola bars or loose granola
  • Trail mix -- you can always make your own with raisins, peanuts, M&Ms, and cereal or granola.
  • Vanilla yogurt
  • Lots and lots of water! Stock up on an assortment of flavored water or fitness drinks like Propel or Gatorade.

Games and Activities

  • Opening Ceremonies -- Have the guests parade around while blasting the Olympic theme.
  • Races -- For the serious athletes, you can run races up and down the street or around the block. Organize relay races if you have enough competitors to make teams. Make sure you have medals for the winners!
  • Swimming Races -- If you have a pool, guests can race back and forth. Organize relay races for teams.
  • Offer silly games for the less competitive, like Dizzy Bat Races -- Lean over and place your forehead on the end of the bat. Spin twenty times, then try to run a straight line!
  • Younger guests may have fun inventing Synchronized Swimming routines in the pool.
  • Closing Ceremonies -- Award medals to game winners and thank guests for coming. This would be a good time for the victory feast, if you are planning one.
