To prevent cracking, I never place it in a dishwasher, as the water is generally too hot. If you have hard water, a dishwasher will permanently etch your glassware, if washed in it.

I always put a spoon in the cup/dish before pouring a hot liquid/food into it, just as you would for china.

I do not use it in the microwave. The mixing bowls generally are not oven/microwave safe. I only use the pieces that actually do say oven ware in the oven/microwave.
