Take Along a Trusted Camera When You Travel

This photo was taken with a $5 store bought camera on my Daughter's senior trip to Washington D.C. The other photos were taken with a brand new camera which failed to work properly and she lost photos of tourist sights. Be sure to take along a trusted camera for important pictures you can't replace.

Washing Blankets

Set the cycle, add detergent, and let the machine fill. When all the soap is dissolved, add the blanket. Let it soak, and then wash on gentle. Add 1 1/2 cups white vinegar to the final rinse. It will give the blanket a clean smell and give it a little fluff.

Homemade Crafts As Gifts

If you're a crafty person, why not make most if not all of your gifts. Not only will you be saving lots of money, time, and gasoline (searching for that "right" gift), chances are your recipient will love and cherish your homemade gift much more, as it will be made with love.

By Terri H.

Editor's Note: The key to doing this is starting early. If you start working on Christmas gifts early, you can not only save money at Christmas time, but enjoy it more.

Joe's Hand Cleaner

Joe's Hand Cleaner for Marks on Wood, Walls or Carpet.. If you have permanent Markings or any stains on your wood, walls, or carpet try rubbing Joe's Hand Cleaner on the stain. My 5 year old had been making a project and he put permanent marking on my wood table and I put this product on it and it came right up. Try this and you will be amazed.

Saving Money with an Entertainment Book

I invested in an Entertainment Book. I received it from work for a discounted rate of 13.00. With two for one fast food saving, $5.00 off a $10.00 purchase at the bread store (I really load up on that one!), and 4 coupons for $5.00 off a 50.00 gift certificate at a local grocery store. Then I traded some of the coupons we don't use for more of the ones we do use. This book has paid for itself 10 times over!

"What's In The Bag?" Baby Shower Game

Here is an idea for a fun baby shower game. Take 10 plain white lunch bags and put a decorative "B" on one "A" on another "B" on another... until you spell out BABY SHOWER. Head to the dollar store for useful items for mom, like. B for bib, A for aspirator, B for bottle, Y... you get the idea.

Give each of the guests a sheet with BABY SHOWER on it and have them guess an item for each. As mom opens each bag, they check off if they have the rigth answer or not. Give the winner (the person who has the most correct guesses) a nice plant and mom gets to keep the goodies!

Tuesday Subway Savings

I buy the cheapest Subway combos on Tuesdays, when double stamps are given. (I also accept stamps from anyone.) Once a book is full, I go to the mall, watch a "dollar" movie, go to the food court, order a small soda (or have a water bottle with me) and get the most expensive sandwich on Subway's menu for free!

A Wine Rack For Bath Towels

For a different look in your bathroom, take a wine rack and store your rolled up bath towels in it. This new look has been a topic of conversation for my house guests many times over. You can even personalize it with specific colors and paint treatments along with other crafty add-ons like beads, shells, raffia, etc.

Make a Wall Shelf Out Of An Old Dresser Drawer

Take a distressed old drawer and hang it on your wall for use as a wall shelf. You can make it look old or new with paint, even add contact or wallpaper to the inside for a cheerful look. And leaving the knobs on at the bottom can serve as hangers for chimes, mobiles, or whatever you choose, maybe even kitchen towels.

Negotiating With Yourself About Chores

On the days when I just don't feel like bailing into the "to-do" list, I negotiate with myself to accomplish at least the rudimentary stuff I have to get done. For example, if I am reading a good book or watching television, I "work" at the end of a chapter or work on the commercials.

It's amazing how much you can accomplish towards getting a house straightened up, preparation towards an evening meal or doing the laundry when you work just during the commercials. I am motivated to hurry up and get the job (or a portion of the job) done before the program begins again.

Uses for Plastic Table Cloths

There are many uses for the cheap plastic table cloths. How do you use them other than their intended use?

I don't know if you've had this tip, but we use it often. Vinyl table cloths - we use them for playdough mats, painting or doing most anything messy. They can be wiped off, they can be shook out, and it saves my carpet, floor or whatever. We even take them outside for messy activities. I usually try to find them on clearance and look for the rectangle as they are the largest, but any will work. My DH thought I was nuts when I found them for $0.30 each and bought a dozen - we still have them and use them regularly. I've even tossed them in the washer on gentle!

Lord of the Rings Lampshade Ideas

I'm making a lamp for my daughter's 16th birthday in September. She's really into Lord of the Rings, especially Legolas. I'm using a Legolas figure on a wooden base with the lamp post coming up under Legolas's coat. My problem is how should I decorate the lampshade? A regular white lampshade would look plain, but I'm devoid of any creative ideas. Anyone have some suggestions?

Poem For a Pet Owner That Has Lost Their Pet - Put Me To Rest

I just learned that my best friend's son lost his beloved dog. He had a heart attack, and the vet said he would live in pain, and strongly suggested he euthanize him. It took the poor guy 3 hours at the vet's office to break down and allow the vet to go ahead. My heart breaks for him.

There was a poem that I remember titled "Put Me To Rest" that was comforting to those who had to make the heart-wrenching decision to euthanize their beloved animal.

I cannot find it. If anyone knows the poem, will you please post it?

Thanks,
Kentucky-lass

Oak Hardwood Floor Quick Fix

My entire house (except kitchens and baths) is graced with wood flooring in oak. The house was built in 1940. While it's great to see in theory, only one room has been refinished since all were carpeted in the 50's. So the continuous expanse of wood is interrupted by the dining room's lovely finish. Would it work to just recoat the floors all in a darker color finish without sanding? The stairs are also pretty funky. I don't want to recover the floors in carpet or go to the mess of sanding. Thanks.

Removing Leg Wax From Couch

I know this sounds silly, but: My roomate was waxing her legs, and managed to spill the wax on the floor. Before she could get it cleaned up, her dog walked through it, and then proceeded to walk across my brand new couch. I am afraid to use the same harsh chemicals that took it off of the kitchen floor, on the couch. The couch is a suede like material that is 100% microdenier polyester fiber, and is a very dark merlot color. I have contacted the manufactuer, but they were really no help. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Burn Marks In Kitchen Sink

Some paper work caught fire while doing the bills in the kitchen (yes stupid I know!) and the nearest place to move the flame safely was the kitchen sink. Before I had a chance to turn on the water the flames had scorched some of the sides leaving black and brown burn marks on the sink. I've tried using wirewool to remove the marks but to no avail. Smell Coming From Main Breaker

There is a hot smell coming from my breaker box and the surface around the main breaker is hot to the touch when the smell is present. I have taken the cover off of the box and the main wire coming in from outside is very hot to the touch. I am of course concerned. Is this caused by an overloaded main breaker? The house was built in 1977 and most of the breakers are original. I bought the house last September and the problem just started. The main breaker is a 200 Amp breaker. Any advice?

Thank you.

Soap Dried On Car Carpet

The previous owner of my Blazer must have taken it to a cheap-o detail shop when they were trying to sell it. As a result, I have a TON of soap dried into the carpet in the back. I don't mean residue, it looks like they spilled soap. AND it is kind of in the "shadow" of the spare tire, so I didn't notice it till now, when I have owned it for 6 months!

I am using our carpet extractor with just plain water in the solution tank to try to get it up, but I have done it for a couple of THREE HOUR sessions, and I swear it looks like nothing has changed. And the soap just keeps coming up. Is there something else I should be doing?
Please Please Please help me!
