What is Oxidation?

The chemical addition of oxygen to break down pollutants or organizac waste; e.g., destruction of chemicals such as cyanides, phenols, and organic sulfur compounds in sewage by bacterial and chemical means.

Oxidation is the revolution of electrons. The process of electrons moving to and from an object is the mechanism by which oxidation transpires. Some objects will give up more electrons than they will accept and others will attract more. It is this revolving action which defines oxidation.
