If you have oily skin, you can spend a lot of money applying store-bought products three or four times a day to fight it. Or, you can try some of these natural remedies and tips:
Wash your skin in hot water. Cold water doesn't dissolve oil very well. Use good warm water!
Rub a wedge of lemon across the oily parts of your face as a natural astringent.
Don't buy soaps especially made for oily skin. Popular Ivory soap works very well - the trick is to lather well and wash often. Also, consider a more-drying regular soap, such as Safeguard or Dial.
I use Cetaphil cleanser for oily skin & witch hazel. For a cheap, oil-absorbant face mask, apply a thin layer of milk of magnesia, you can even wear it under makeup.

While your suggestions would work for some, for others (like me) some wouldn't work at all. I have extremely oily skin, washing in hot or even warm water makes my skin MUCH more oily. I worked for doctors over 20 years, and many individuals have reactions when citrus, especially lemons, come into contact and stay on the skin. This can be especially bad if the person spends time in the sun. Also, most people with oily skin also have sensitive skin that will react adversely if regular soap is consistently used on the face, causing many more breakouts.
Most of the hair tips sound OK, but be careful with the lemon juice rinse. It will work on the roots, but can be extremely drying to the ends if your hair is long.
