For a small family unit of a couple of people, a turkey for a holiday meal may be more food than can be utilized even with freezing the leftovers. A thrifty substitute can be a fryer-sized chicken. Stuffing can be used if you wish and roasting is the same as for turkey except the time is much shorter. The bones can be simmered for soup stock.

Another idea for the holiday turkey for just a few is to use deli turkey with turkey gravy. It's yummy and much easier.

Some parts of the meal you may find at the dollar store. For example, side dishes and condiments. There are many different kinds of nuts and finger foods, exotic things such as canned hearts of palm and artichoke. There are many choices of canned vegetables and fruits and juices.

Be careful. Even though it is a dollar store, by the time you have chosen all the things you like, it can really add up!

If you have a very small family or just two people, consider serving turkey breast only instead of the whole bird. You can prepare pan stuffing & all the trimmings. No waste.
