Easter Activity Book

I was making activity pages for a quiet book and this is one idea I thought of for a 'holiday' quiet book. I got a package of 50 foam sheets at Walmart for $5.00! They're a good size to use for quiet books.

I like to use super glue because it bonds strong and fast, but always be careful with super glue. First, I cut out the shapes I need; a yellow rectangle and then cut out "doors" like a cabinet and I super glued two small rectangle door knobs on the cabinet doors, a pink rectangle and cut slits out, like curtains and I drew a black curtain rod with permanent sharpie marker. I cut a 'bush' shape from green, and I drew leaf shapes with green permanent sharpie, Brown rectangle for a door. Next, I found a bunny head template on the web and cut that out. I drew in the pink ears, cut a half circle shape in red for the mouth, and I cut out a little rectangle and slits in black for the nose and whiskers. The whiskers were a bit tricky to glue on because they're so thin, so be careful. Using a hole punch, I punched two blues for the eyes, and I glued on the face. I also cut out a basket shape and drew in details.

Now you're ready to finish. Glue one side of the brown rectangle door and stick it on the white background. Draw the rest of the details and punch out a brown circle with the hole punch, cut it in half and glue it as the door knob. Glue the perimeter of the cupboard on the white sheet, careful to avoid the doors so they'll open. Glue two sides of the bushes onto the white background, leaving enough space so you can lift back the other corner of the bushes to hide the egg. Glue the top of the curtains to the white background. Glue on the basket and the bunny head at the bottom.

Remember to leave enough space at the top of the white background to write the words with a black permanent sharpie: "Help the Easter Bunny find all the eggs and put them in his basket!" As a last detail, I cut out the shape of a lamp and glued it near the bottom, above the basket and hid and egg up in there too, but I'm thinking it is kind of small for little fingers to get the egg out. Try it, see if you like that idea.

I found a template for an egg on the internet and cut about 7 out of white and decorated them with permanent sharpies. Now, hide the eggs behind the curtains, the bushes, the door, and the cupboard. I also found that another one will fit behind one of the bunny's ears! I'm just going to punch some holes in the side of the foam and put it in my book with the rest of the activities! Later, I'll post my other quiet book activities. Happy Easter!

Jess (English Bull Terrier)

Jess is a 5 year old English Bull Terrier. I got in April 2003. She likes to play with her toys, and camping. She will not go in a river but she will swim in the sea.

Use Press and Seal for Seedling Containers

When planting your seeds for spring and using those pots that you saved from last year, use "Press and Seal" on the bottom of them when you don't have a tray, to keep the water from leaking out.

Contests:

These contests are weekly. We pick 2 tip winners and 1 photo winner at the end of each week. Each winner will win $25!

Today's Tips:

Rubbing Alcohol for a Hand Sanitizer

Instead of buying bottle after bottle of hand sanitizer which can go fast with a lot of kids, I save old spray bottles that give a mist like hair spray pump bottles. I refill them with rubbing alcohol. It also doesn't leave spots on the floor like the hand sanitizer can. So far no sick days this school year.

Photograph Your Belongings for Insurance Purposes

Has this simple tip been shared before? Take your digital camera around the house and photograph everything you own. This is such an easy way to catalog your possessions for insurance purposes. I can't believe how quick this is and how nice it is to have a file saved in photos of my possessions. Once you have done this you can then proceed to place a value on each of your items and also catalog this by way of a Word document with photo of item inserted.

Use "Sippy Tops" on Flavored Water Bottles

I always carry a bottle of water to drink in my van. I save the 'sippy tops' from water bottles and put them on the bottles of flavored water that I like. This makes driving safer, as there have been no spills or dribbles if I hit a bump and I don't have to take my eyes off the road, or hands off the wheel to remove the cap of the bottle. To clean the 'sippy tops' I fill a cup with hot water, drop in 2 denture tablets and let them soak overnight. In the morning, just rinse and let dry.

Keep Your Feet Dry With Plastic Bags

When we were kids and wanted to play outside in the rain or snow, we didn't have boots. My mother would put plastic bags over our socks then put our shoes on then cover the plastic bags up with our pants. My mom used bread bags but I used recycled plastic grocery bags for my kids. These days I still cover my socks with plastic bags before I go out into the snow. It's one more useful thing you can do with those plastic bags that are just waiting to be reused!

Put a Brick in Your Toilet Tank

To save water when flushing your toilet, remove the tank lid and put a brick into the tank. This replaces some of the water that would normally go down the drain. In time you will notice a slight reduction in your water bill depending on use.

Use Forks as Garden Markers

Use old forks as garden markers. Simply "weave" your seed packets through the tines on forks you no longer use. Stick them in the garden to mark your rows. Even plastic forks could be used, but be sure they are firmly pushed in the ground.

Use Old Bowling Ball for a Garden Globe

Recycle those old bowling balls. Spray them with primer and then spray paint them any color you choose. Use them as garden globes. The size is a little off but they are not so breakable as the glass globes. Your will just have to buy a stand. This was my idea after breaking so many of those garden globes.

Check Your Receipt Before Leaving the Store

Are you being overcharged for groceries? I am overcharged for my groceries half of the time! That is why I now check my receipt before leaving the store instead of when I get home. I buy a lot of thing on sale and often times the store employees have not entered the sale prices into their computers. Another reason is just carelessness on the part of the check-out person.

Just today, I was overcharged $11.00 for some paintbrushes that should have totaled $2.00! That was at a hardware store. Please take a minute to check your receipts. It could be worth your while.

Use Old CDs as a Bird Deterrent

Do you have birds making nests on your porch or in your plants? Then get some old CDs you don't want, put a strong string through the hole and tie it and take the other (long) end and tie it to your porch so it hangs down. It will twirl and reflect light. The birds are scared of it and will not come back. I have them all over the front porch, no more birds! This method works in the garden as well, just hang them in a tree or post where the birds come around.

Avoid Leftovers By Getting a Dog

I am always reading how people are finding ways of using up leftovers, I never have that dilemma. My solution - get a dog! I have two wonderful. healthy dogs who have been brought up on leftovers (always plentiful as we have a family of 7). I always ensure the leftovers are suitable and have been doing this for years. Not only will you be providing a home for one of our many unwanted canines, but you won't have a leftover problem!

Help With Pimples On Forehead

I have pimples on my forehead. They fade away sometimes, but reappear in full strength and what's really bad about this all is I'm 51 years old. You'd think I would have grown out this at puberty. But when I was 20 years old I was covered. It was same with 30 then 40 years old. They came and they started too disappear, now their just on my forehead.

Choosing a Weeping Willow Tree

I have wanted a weeping willow tree all of my life, I am now 51. I have tried looking up various types so I know what they will look like when they grow, but am still not sure. In my area, they are selling cherry (white and pink), and "regular" and golden globe.

I want one that is not real expensive and doesn't get too big. Where can I find accurate pictures of the different types of weeping willow trees? I wonder if I should abandon the idea since we live in an urban area? I do, however, have a wetter back yard, which is away from streets and buildings. Thanks.
