Children's Play Dough

This is lots of fun for kids to make and play with! My kids used to love it!

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 Tbsp. alum
  • 2 cups boiling water

Directions:

Combine ingredients. Knead well. Add desired food coloring. Store in tight container. Lots of fun for active hands!

Where you have 1 tbl alum...do you mean Baking Soda? Please clarify. I'd like to try this. You can email me at habari7 AT comcast.net Thanks

Tip: Children's Play Dough

Kids love PlayDough. Make it at home yourself.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 Tablespoons cooking oil

Directions

Mix well. Adding a few drops of food coloring is optional. Store in air tight container when not in use.

  • 1 Tbsp. alum
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • Food coloring

Directions

Mix together all ingredients with a spoon. Turn out onto slightly floured surface; knead until smooth. Store in refrigerator.

These are terrific recipes, my other recipes called for cream of tartar; and that is not "cheap". I didn't know about alum, though. (01/14/2006)

I have a recipe that uses a package of unsweetened Kool-Aid instead of food color. Gives it color and a nice smell. (01/26/2006)
