I'm in Indiana, and the local waste management says that you can leave the can open, let the paint dry out completely, and then throw in the trash. You should check with your local trash company on their requirements. Sometimes the county here will have a hazardous chemical day in which you can bring your nasty poisonous products to a special location and they will dispose of.
