To keep up with my receipts from credit card purchases, I have a homemade device which consist of a piece of wood with a tall slim nail sticking up through the center. Each time we make a purchase, we add the receipt to the stack on the nail. When the bank statement comes, it's easy to check my purchases against the statement as they are in date order. A hairy wood pecker, one of the many types of birds that feed at my oriole feeders. These fellows stay in my yard year round. I feed them seed and suet throughout the winter months, then they drink sugar water at the oriole and hummingbird feeders in the summer. They are very cheerful birds, and not afraid of me at all! Bing is a three year old Budgie. Initially, I bought Bing as a birthday gift for my husband. Bing was in a bin with close to 50 other birds and it took two employees and a fishing net to catch him. He loves to sing. The only time he's NOT singing is when he's sleeping. And even then, he occasionally wakes up, sings a couple notes and falls right back to sleep. And millet. He loves to eat millet. I'd never owned a bird before, knew nothing about them and, quite frankly, he frightened me a bit. It took me close to 5 months to hand-train Bing. Something that usually can't be done at all with Budgies born and sold in pet stores. But I sat by his cage every day, 20 minutes here, 20 minutes there and spoke to him. Initially baby-talk but after about three weeks, I found myself spilling my guts! To a bird! Little by little he came closer. The day he climbed into my hand was the day a valuable life-lesson was learned. Patience and the ability to over-come fear. I'm really glad I made those employees get that fish net. Before I retired, I used to use what was called a "Bohemian" savings plan. Why Bohemian, I don't know. It involved, if you get paid on a Friday, for instance, you would put your check in the bank or enter the deposit in your checkbook on Saturday the first week. You would do this on Sunday the second week, and so on. By the time you get to Friday again, you have 2 paychecks. Easy to do too! Source: A Chicago newspaper about 45 years ago. I was shopping for jewelry cleaner one day and a lady saw me and said "don't waste your money on that cleaner". She told me to use ammonia straight out of the bottle. (This costs $1.00 at the Dollar Store and lasts for years). I was amazed when I tried it. I put ammonia and jewelry in a coffee cup for very short time, rinse, and rub with towel or soft cloth. I also use a toothbrush to get in the crevices. The shine is unbelievable. I haven't bought jewelry cleaner in years. By Pmcbee from Jesup, GA Contest Contender!

Do Not Reuse Plastic Shopping Bags There have been several tips on reusing these bags. If you go to YouTube and check out this video and many of the others you will be sick at what we are doing to Mother Earth. I found mesh bags at a dollar type store - 4/$1. They are sturdy and hold a lot. I always forget the larger cloth bags I carry in my trunk so I finally got wise and carry these bags in my purse or pocket when shopping. I too, used to use plastic bags for small trash bins, wrapping a dirty diaper, kitchen scraps, etc., but the never go away. This is one way we can protect our earth. It's the only one we have. Please reconsider using plastic bags at all! By Halfwhit from Ashdown, AR Contest Contender!

Dealing With Contacts While Camping Recently I had gone camping with my family. I did not want to bring my glasses with me, as I wanted to continue wearing my contacts. Well when camping, there is not always a shower or running water on hand to get clean. What I had done each morning and evening was to use Purell Hand Santizer to wash my hands prior to removing or inserting my contacts. I made sure my hands were dry prior to touching the contacts. Worked great. By Karyn01 from Ottawa, Canada Contest Contender!

Deodorant for Itching from Mosquito Bites I had a lot of mosquito bites and the itching was driving me crazy. A friend told me to rub deodorant on them and I figured it was worth a try. To my surprise, the itching went away instantly. For some reason you have to use the white kind, the clear kind does not work. An inexpensive way to keep those bites from itching. Prepare for School the Night Before The best back to school tips are to have your child pick out his or her clothes the night before and either lay them out on a desk or hang them on the front of the closet doors so that they are ready first thing in the morning. Also have them pack their book bag and all non-perishable items in their lunchbox and have it ready to go. They can choose their breakfast and have the cereal box or pop-tart choice sitting on the counter for faster preparation. By Lizard from Mobile, AL Contest Contender!

I am in the process of trying to locate some old wine storage boxes. You know, the kind that are made like lots of X's and you lay the bottles down in them? Anyway I think those would make a fantastic way to store and organize all my yarns! And it'd look nice too because I plan on painting them a nice happy color! Once I get them all done, I'm going to attach some small 3-drawer units to the top to store smaller things in. By Cricketnc from Parkton, NC Contest Contender!

Rate It: Water Stains on Vinyl Film Patio Windows How can I clean plastic film patio windows? They are thick vinyl (I think) film, a cheaper alternative to glass and fine for Florida. Rate It: I took my 8 year old dog to the the groomer. After picking him up, I was talking to the groomer and found out that her dog had about 4 months ago been sick with parvo.
