Most lunch meats get watery or kinda slimy, when in the fridge a while. After opening, wrap in paper towels. You can put it back in the bag it came in or a zip lock baggie. Change towels when they feel damp. No more slimy or soggy bread either.

Source: I came up with this one a few years ago.

How long can you safely store opened deli meat. I try to use it up within a week or freeze part of the package.

Please be aware that the expiration date on the package is for SEALED date. Once you open it, you have the same count down for throwing out as if it were deli cut, fresh fixed, etc.

Information from:
My son is a manager in a grocery store--frozen foods and parttime meat department as a cutter, packager, customer service.
