Ever wonder what to do with those sample credit cards sent your way to entice your business? Why not use it for teaching kids (and even those young-at-hearts) about money? We can think 2 simple ways right now that you can use these plastics that would otherwise mess up the "mixed paper" recycling mound. One would be a mini-book on financial wisdom - what better way to introduce your teenager (or your spouse!) on how money should be handled? Another use of this mini-book is for Key chain with Memory verse reviewer. Make use of waiting time - traffic, bank queue or just plain waiting.

Ingredients

  • 2 Sample credit cards
  • Bond Paper (Substitute: Any nice paper you would like to use.)
  • List of proverbs or sayings about Finances
  • PC/Printer or Nice Pen if you want to do calligraphy
  • Key ring (Substitutes: Metal wire or Nylon or Cotton Threads)
  • Optional: Beads with holes big enough to be threaded into the Key ring.
  • Pencil
  • Puncher with a small bit
  • Scissors

Method/Instructions

A. Preparing the Proverbs/Saying Pages

1. Trace the sample credit card on the bond paper. 1 paper can fit 10 rectangular traces.

2. Type the proverb or saying in the middle of each trace. (If you are doing calligraphy, now is the time to write the proverb or saying in the same location as when you are using a PC/Printer. You can also add any design - colors, drawings, stickers, etc.)

3. Cut the traces ensuring that the corners are rounded so that they do not peek out when the sample credit cards are placed in front of them. This will be your proverb/saying page.

4. Arrange the proverb/saying page so that they have the same orientation and facing in the same direction. Stack them on top of each other and level all sides.

5. Position the puncher about 1/4" from the upper left corner. Punch 3 overlapping holes into the stack of proverb/saying pages. Approximate effective diameter is 1/8".

B. Preparing the Sample Credit Card "covers"

6. Place one of the sample credit cards on top fo the punched stack. Position the sample credit card so that it covers all edges of the stack.

7. Invert the puncher so that it goes through the stack hole first, then into the sample credit card. The idea is to let the stack hole guide where the sample credit card will be punched so that they are closely aligned. This will be the front cover.

8. Remove the stack and place the other sample credit card back-to-back with the 1st sample credit card (which has been punched already). Both sample credit cards should be facing opposite directions but oriented the same way (ie, top-to-top, bottom-to-bottom).

9. Invert the puncher so that it goes thorugh the 1st sample credit card hole first, then into the 2nd sample credit card. Again, the idea is to make sure the holes on both sample credit cards are aligned. This will be the back cover.

C. Putting together the Financial Wisdom Mini-book

10. Thread the front cover (1st sample credit card), the stack of proverb/saying pages and the back cover (2nd sample credit card) into the Key ring, in that order.

Optional: Tread beads into the Key ring.

Voila! You now have something for your teenager or your spouse or even yourself to remind you about how you are using your finances.

List of proverbs you can use:

"A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold."
Proverbs 22:1

"And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. "
1 Timothy 6:8

"Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income."
Ecclesiastes 5:10

"Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint.
Proverbs 23:4-5

"The desire of the lazy man kills him, for his hands refuse to labor. He covets greedily all day long . . ."
Proverbs 21:25-26

"He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich . . . There is desirable treasure, and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man squanders it"
Proverbs 21:17, 20

"The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender"
Proverbs 22:7

"Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, and attend to your herds; for riches are not forever . . ."
Proverbs 27:23-24

"A faithful man will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished."
Proverbs 28:20

"Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine"
Proverbs 3:9-10

"For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out."
1 Timothy 6:7-9

i can't believe no one has posted feedback yet - this is a darling project to make and SOOO useful in this day of instant gratification. Lord knows I could use more inspiration to be content instead of trying to buy stuff to fill the void. Thank you, Rela Ann!
