Large Walls, Small Budget

Large Walls, but small budget?? I had an extremely large wall behind my couch with cathedral ceilings and couldn't afford to buy large pictures to "balance" the room. Instead, we purchased very inexpensive wood molding from Home Depot, mitered it and attached to walls with finishing nails. Painted the molding to blend with wall and put in a very "neutral" wallpaper.

Then I was able to hang my much smaller and inexpensive wall pictures without them looking diminished on such a large wall. We also decided to use the same molding as a chair rail and put wall paper below to finish the look.

This was a great way to "balance" this very large wall in our living room without spending a lot of money on huge pictures.

Scrapbooking for 21 Kindergarten Students

-I use hanging files in a metal hanging file holder. Each student has a file with a plastic zip loc bag stapled on the inside.

-I have files for scrapbook pages which are purchased or designed on a PrintShop computer program plus other clipart, stickers and other embellishments for pages

-I keep a variety of pens, markers for writing on scrapbook pages

-I use notebook plastic sleeves to insert completed scrapbook pages

-The scrapbooks are compiled in 1 inch 3 ring binders.

-The 3 ring binder is one of the items on the Kindergarten Supply List for the beginning of school

-I make student name labels which are put on the spine of the notebook. The notebooks are stacked in a bookcase alphabetically. When a scrapbook page is completed, it is inserted into the plastic sleeve and placed in the student's scrapbook.

-Photographs of the children are made in duplicate; extra pictures are stored in the plastic bag for future use.

-I made a collage of pictures entitled "School Days" at the end of each student's scrapbook last year by using the extra picture, cropping them and placing them randomly on a page entitled "School Days" which had some school clipart. This page featured pictures of all the kindergarten students at different stages of the school year.

-The scrapbook for this kindergarten class begins with the First Day of School and ends with the Kindergarten Graduation Exercise. All school events are recorded by photos.

-There is a feature entitled "Famous Quotes" which is cute phrases written down that a student says during the course of a school day. Example: A student named Nathan came in from the playground the first day of school and said, "He had to get the corn chips out of his shoes"! The playground is surfaced with wood chips! It was cute!

-These scrapbooks are presented to the kindergarten student's parents at the Kindergarten Graduation Reception.

I work on these scrapbooks daily to stay current.

Alternative to Microfiber Cloth

Forget microfibre cloths and proprietary cleaners. Place a sheet of newspaper in a basin of water; if it doesn't disintegrate, it's ideal for cleaning glass (windscreens, mirrors, panes). Squeeze and go over twice; finish with a dry piece of newspaper. Recycling and saving, and being kind to the environment (no detergents) at one go.

House Training a Declawed Cat

My cat, Lexi, I got from a friend a couple months ago. She's three-and-a-half years old, and she's spayed and declawed (front and back).

She originally came from my friend's parents' house. They are grandparents, and they had her declawed completely so she wouldn't scratch the grandchildren. However, she ended up not getting along with their dogs (the dogs would try to play with her, and scared her to death). So, they had to get rid of her. They gave her to my friend, who kept her for a month but eventually had to get rid of her too - they have a small place and two much larger cats that have their claws. Their cats were used to roughhousing with each other, and Lexi couldn't handle it, so she had to go. So, I got her back in October.

I have three other cats - all are females, all are smaller than she. One of them tries to befriend her, another is curious of her but scared to death of her, and the third just avoids her altogether. She is scared of all three.

The one that tries to befriend her is the smallest of all four. She is still a kitten (DOB Mar 21, 05), so she tends to play by chasing and romping around.

The problem here is that Lexi recently started peeing in my bed. My bed seems to be the place she is happiest, so I can't go and make her stay away from there. It is her sanctuary - where she feels safest. When she is chased by the other cat (Lily), it's to my bed that Lexi runs.

I have no clue what to do. Getting rid of any of the cats is not an option.

Reducing Shedding With Your Dog

I have a dog that sheds like dandelions gone to seed. He has been staying with a cousin since we moved since weren't allowed to have him. I have got to find a good product to control his shedding, or he'll wind up in the pound. Budget is a very big factor, so I'm tempted to go low and try the brewers yeast, but would love some input from others who have dealt with this. Are the more expensive "shed stopper" supplements worth the extra cost? Can the brewers yeast compare?

Creating a Lighted Brick

I am interested in creating a lighted brick. I saw the brick and it appears there is a hole in it and lights are inserted into the brick through the hole. The hole then appears to be filled with something. Does anyone happen to have instructions for this brick? It is then wrapped with lovely transparent ribbon to create a lighted package. Thanks a million for your help.

Vomit Stain on Carpet

I need advice! While babysitting, my friend's kid threw up all over the place. I am having the hardest time getting rid of the vomit smell in my carpet and my hair. I have tried everything on the carpet: soap and water, vinegar, CarpetFresh, Febreeze - nothing worked. Now it just smells like CarpetFresh AND vomit. I've washed my hair a number of times but can't get the smell out of there either. It's really awful. If I have to throw out the carpet, I will, but I don't want to cut off all my hair! Please help!

Caring for a Young Puppy

I have noticed at Christmas that too many people in my area are giving away puppies. I think this is sad and wrong. It is the wrong time of year to give away puppies. Driving home from work my boyfriend came across the cutest puppy just laying on the side of the road. When he picked her up he reconized her from the puppies someone was trying to give away at the grocery store. That means that this poor lil pup has just turned 5 weeks old today. She is healthy but I want make her feel better about being ripped from her mama and thrown in to a home that she is loved but not getting the nutrition that she needs from her mama's milk. (Urgggg people I hate them.) If any one has advice for this poor lil pup she and I would love the help.
