Roxy (Tea Cup Chihuahua)

This is Roxy. She is 7 Months old. She is a Tea Cup Chihuahua. I got Roxy when she was 9 weeks old. We bought her sister CoCo a week before. We fell in love with CoCo and decided to get Roxy.

Roxy loves to go outside and run and play with CoCo. She has a little brown stuffed dog that she loves. She will hold it with both her front paws and lick it to death.

When we first got Roxy, she would never come to us. She shyed away from us like she had been abused. She is very cute and very loving. She is the best dog that I have ever had. She follows me around the house and if she cant find me she will go through the house crying. When Roxy runs it looks like she doesn't have any ears. She puts both of the back so far it looks like shes earless.

Fancy (Tennessee Walker)

Fancy is 14 years old. She is a Tennessee Walker mare.

She is my first horse. I bought her 10 years ago. She likes to eat candy and gives kisses.

She's a heroine - two times. Once she wrapped herself around my mother to keep another horse from kicking her. Then, she nursed and cared for a foal when its mother died. She wet-nursed her until it was time for weaning.

Today's Tips:

Tankless Water Heater Saves Energy

Demand (also know as Tankless or Instantaneous) water heaters provide hot water only as it is needed. They don't produce the standby energy losses associated with storage water heaters, which can save you money. How they work: Demand water heaters heat water directly without the use of a storage tank. When a hot water tap is turned on, cold water travels through a pipe into the unit. Either a gas burner or an electric element heats the water. As a result, demand water heaters deliver a constant supply of hot water. You don't need to wait for a storage tank to fill up with enough hot water. However, a demand water heater's output limits the flow rate. You need to run the water a minute or two before hot water exits. Nevertheless, the money you save on your electricity bill is well worth the initial cost of the unit.

Video Boxes For Organizing Paperbacks

Are you a bookworm like me and the type of person that hates to give away books and reads them over and over again?

I was getting overwhelmed with paperbacks, they would be 2 deep on my shelves and I would have trouble finding the one I wanted. I brought home some of those video/photo boxes you can get at craft stores, and while organizing my videos, realized that they are also the perfect size for most standard sized paperback books. After a trip back to the store to purchase boxes in colors that would coordinate with my rooms, I sorted out my books by author or theme, stashed them in the boxes, and then used the label on the end to identify which author or theme was inside.

Now I have my fantasy, my mystery, and my historical fiction all at my fingertips - and my shelves look nicer and less cluttered. I was able to double stack these on the shelves in some places, and in others I used the box as a "platform" for some figurines or other decorations.

Final Net Hairspray At Eckerd's

Hey everyone. I just found Final Net hairspray at an Eckerd's Drug Store. They even have two types, Extra Hold and Regular Hold. That's the good news, the bad news is Eckerd's is becoming Rite Aid, and I'm not sure whether they'll still carry Final Net. Here's hoping! Now if we could still only get Spatini, life would be perfect!

Rotisserie Chicken for Several Meals

There are only two of us so this usually goes a long way. I will buy a cooked chicken at Sam's Club and use it that evening for our first meal. I will then take all the leftover meat and cut off half of it and cube it for a pot pie.

For Two Pot Pies, use the following ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 cup of cubed chicken
  • two Pillsbury pie crust packages (the red box in refrigerated section of supermarkets). These come with 2 pie crusts each, one for the top crust and one for the bottom
  • 1 bag of frozen mixed vegetables (this is enough for 2 pies)
  • 2 medium or 3 small potatoes (scrubbed and cubed),
  • 2 cans of cream soups, flavor of your choice (I use cream of mushroom, cream of celery, sometimes chicken or spicy chicken, depending on my mood)
  • 1 onion (I prefer vidalias)
I usually put the bottom crusts into the pie pans then boil the mixed vegetables and potatoes and onions until just starting to soften. I then pour off most of the water and add in the 2 cans of creamed soups. I then add the chicken and divide into the two pie crusts. (These make two deep crust pies). Put top crusts on. To be a little creative, I will take cookie cutters and cut out shapes around the center and them put the cut out shape back on top of the solid crust area. Bake in a 350 degree F oven until golden brown on top. One can be frozen for future use and one can be eaten right away.

The second half of the leftover rotisserie chicken can either be used in a chicken salad, I like curried with grapes and almonds, or boil the rest (including the bones) to be used in soup/stew. Again, our favorite is more a stew where I boil the chicken till it falls off the bones, add carrots to the chicken while it's boiling (I usually use 3/4's of a small bag of "baby carrots". I also either add fresh onion chunks or will add a jar of boiled onions at the end. Once the bones and fat and skin are all skimmed off and removed and thrown away, I then add the following: celery, frozen or fresh corn, and, depending on whether I want stew or soup, I will either add some chicken bouillon to make the broth richer or I will again use the cream soups to make it thicker and richer. I have also made it with potatoes for one style and cooked rice for another style, again depending on moods. I've also added chopped cabbage to give it another flavoring and filler. As you can see, a rotisserie chicken goes a long way.

Iron Gift Wrap To Reuse

Pretty gift wrap is very expensive. When I receive gifts, I carefully unwrap my present, fold the gift wrap it came in and put it away for later. Then I put my iron on DRY and COTTON setting. Iron the plain paper on the right side, embossed or shiny on the wrong side. Don't keep the iron on the same area for too long because it marks or burns, long sweeps are best. Roll up, and you have pretty gift wrap for nothing!

Care Credit For Expensive Vet Bills

If you have a dog with an expensive medical problem and you are not the richest person around, you should ask your vet about care-credit. We had a dog with parvo that was loved and not a lot of money to treat the virus so the vet told us about care-credit. It's a credit card made specifically for pet bills. In the end, it saved our dog and even though we had to pay $900 dollars, it wasn't all up front. We paid it as we went!

Old T-Shirts As Swiffer Replacement

I love using a dry Swiffer but don't like purchasing the paper bottoms to put on them as they are quite expensive and once used they are discarded. I save my hubbies old t-shirts and cut them into the size that will fit the bottom of the Swiffer. After using them, I shake the dust into a plastic bag, discard it and then wash the squares and reuse them. No cost to me and they work just as well.

Water Only When You Need It

Instead of running the sprinklers on a timer, I only turn them on when needed. Been doing this for years. Since we have water restrictions in our city, we are limited to T and F. Every time we get a substantial rain, I write "BIG RAIN" on the calendar, to avoid watering unnecessarily. After rain day in and day out, and then a dry spell, then too much rain, it's easy to forget when it last rained and was enough to actually penetrate the yard.

Move Cool Air In And Warm Air Out

Another cooling tip - try to be aware of the direction of the ventilation where you are - and if it is, say, for example cool outside, but still warm inside, direct the cool air in (and the warm air out) rather than just moving around the warm air inside!

Sounds obvious, but a couple of times I have re-arranged the standing fans at church to really cool us off by bringing in fresh outside air!

I also have an updraft in the hall of my apartment building, so I keep my door open, with screening in front of it, to make use of that source of ventilation.

Ideas for Tile for Kitchen Remodel

I am remodeling my kitchen. Cabinets will be cherry wood and countertop will be black speckled with beige. I have a tile floor with small black specks. I also have a step up ledge that is tiled like the floor. On the wall in back of the ledge there is the opposite tile of the floor (black with very small white specks in the middle of the wall and on both sides of the black tile there is a section of the same tile that is on the floor. The step up area has a woodburning stove. I want to replace the kitchen tile as many are cracked but the tiles are no longer made so I have to go with a new tile. My problem is what color tile? I don't want to take down the tile on the wall (big job) and tile would need to be replaced there because of the stove ducting on the wall. I need a tile that will go with the cabinets and countertops, but not clash with the wall tiles. Suggestions PLEASE?

What are my dog's chances?

I purchased a toy pom from a local pet store on 6/18, which now I know was a complete mistake. They received him from the breeder on the 6/16 so he had his first series of vaccinations. On the third day of having him he had thrown up in his crate it looked like a murder scene. I took him that night to the vet ER because I thought he ate something. They did x-rays saw something in his stomach so they gave him barrium. That didn't help. I brought him back the next day, they did another x-ray and it still showed some barrium left in his stomach so they gave me i/d food. He ate it drank water and threw up around 2 am next morning.

I then took him to a different hosp and asked them to do a parvo test, you would think the other doc would of done that first thing. My puppy is 8 weeks old, I mean hello, that should of been the first thing tested or brought up to me. So here is the situations as of now, IV fluids and antibiotics were introduced on 6/24 it is 5 days now and they now have to give him plasma and he has pneumonia. So my question is, what are his chances? The vet keeps saying he is stable he hasn't gotten worse and i am like what? You are giving him plasma and he has pneumonia now.

Someone please give me some advice. I had a little break down at the vet today, an ugly cry moment. Please pray for him, his name is Bibble.

Thanks,
MELISSA1172 from Spokane

First I want to say thank you to the person who had the recipe for homemade ice cream that uses 1/2 and 1/2 and whipping cream and sweetened condensed milk, wonderful, wonderful. LOVE THIS RECIPE. What I want to know is, how do I go about making it chocolate ice cream? This stuff gets hard like store bought, I gave a small amount to the owner of our grocery store, and she could not believe it got hard. She said she loved the flavor. So, what do I put in this to make it chocolate? So as I said before, thank you my lifesavers.
