Today's Tips
Use an Old Phone Book for Paint Mess
This is more of a decorating tip then a craft tip, but when I am faux painting the walls of my home, I use the pages of an old phone book to remove excess paint from my sponge, rag or feather duster. I just keep the flipping pages to get a fresh new surface to dab the extra paint off. By Sandy

Pam or Non-stock Spray on Pizza Pans
Spray your pizza pans with PAM or non stick spray anytime you use them. I use it with frozen pizzas, homemade pizzas, basically anything that has the potential of sticking to the pan. By Tracy Fuller

Dip Bacon in Flour
Take a piece of bacon (not frozen) and dip it into flour, coating both sides, then fry as usual. Flour gives it more body and makes a beautiful crust.. Added bonus is that the grease doesn't pop when frying, and shrinkage is less. By Jen

Fix a Drip Hose that Sprays
Do you have a drip hose that sprays rather than drips? Rather than get rid of the hose, you can re-direct the water back down into the ground where it belongs. Simply take an empty soda or water bottle (clear plastic) and carefully cut off the neck and the bottom. Slit it down one side so it looks like a "C", and push the two cut sides down into the soil over the hole in your drip hose. You can use mulch to hide it and help hold it down. The water will spray into the plastic, then run back down it into the ground. If you have multiple drip hoses joined together that tend to spray at the connection, this is a good solution there as well. The plastic can become brittle over the summer, so just throw it out at the end of the year when you put your hose away, and start over the next year. By QueenBeeCrafts

Substitute Water for Butter
A few years ago, a dieting buddy of mine, told me one of her cooking secrets. When preparing a recipe that calls for margarine or butter, instead of using one of those products, she used an equal amount of water rather than just omitting it altogether. She said the product would turn out the same as it would have with the margarine/butter, but with less fat and so much better for you. No one would miss the extra sheen or fat the margarine or butter would have provided. She was right! So you can make your own fat free products at home!! By Terri H

Don't Eat Out, Save for Vacation
At the office, many of my colleagues buy their lunch at the local take-out, spending $4-6 a day! I remind myself that I would rather eat lunch out on vacation with the money I save by brown bagging it--I'd rather have lunch in Venice, Italy than at the takeout in town! Marion

Coupon Storage
I get tons of coupons. So place I like to store them is a baby wipes container. There's lots of room and never have to worry about losing the lid. :)

Cleaning Cookware
Try using an oven cleaner on cooked-on, burnt messes in the bottom of stainless cookware. Works better than scrubbing with SOS pads! Linda

Shower Maintenance
Wipe down your shower each time with a chamois cloth and you will have a sparkling shower every time. Only a gentle cleaning is then necessary once a week if you do this. Donna

Featured Feedback: RE: A Savings Challenge
I'm not sure that helps us. We already cut our own hair, don't have cable, don't rent movies, don't eat out, don't use dry cleaners and other expensive services, don't buy much of anything not already on sale, fresh (like fresh veggies instead of frozen), or bulk, don't buy books but use the library....We already don't trickle money out. We're even learning to use a solar oven to not use the stove and oven much. Our electric and water bills (for 4 people) are half of our neighbor's (2 people).
The unexpected things are like a car repair, a medical visit (rare), a school activity or project...We've removed all of the little things we can think of. I'm not sure where else to look for pennies or dollars! :-)

Featured Feedback: RE: Guitar Buying Tips
Hi Dan,
The better the instrument you buy for your son, the easier it's going to be to play, and the better the quality of sound. Just those two elements are going to be great incentives for him to progressat a faster rate, and to experience the joy of a fine instrument. I just hate to see a parent go out and purchase the cheapest instrument they can possibly find, then wonder why the child loses interest so rapidly. They say, "Well, when he learns, I'll get him something better". Wrong approach. It's almost like tying up one of his legs when he's six months old, and saying, "When he learns how to walk really well, I'll untie his other leg".
Take your son to a good music store, and let him "feel" the difference in neck sizes and height of strings from the frets etc. Listen to the resonance of the instrument, and your ear will tell you which sounds really good. Talk to the experts while you're there, but let your son try the instruments.
Wishing you the best. Julia (a really old musician)

Decorating a Red Bedroom
I'm a male university student currently renting a house with a few other guys. I'm stuck with a bedroom with blood red walls which I can't paint over. What can I do to my room so it doesn't seem so weird? I currently have a pine desk, double futon, navy blue sheets. Advice on how to decorate this room would be greatly appreciated. Ray from Canada

10 Credit Myths
By Scott Bilker
As they say, "Knowledge is power." Many times people either act on false information or fail to act because they didn't know what could be done to their benefit. This is the case in many areas of life, but on the top of that list is money. And in the money category you will find lots of misinformation about credit.
