Today on Annie's Attic website (May 27) there is a free pattern for a child's shrug.

First you'll have to become a member of Bernat's site (it's free) then
LOG ON then type in: http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=3072
or search the words: Cot'n Corn - Shoulder Shrug
This pattern measures 14" x 36"... Adjust to a child's size with this handy chart:
http://www.clearwaterknits.com/info/children.html

* Be sure to add an extra inch to the length & the width for ease!

Here's an adult shrug for crochet: (from the same site, Bernat yarn) It looks like a young teen in the photo...
http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=2584
OR search: "Bamboo - Shoulder Shrug"
on www.bernet.com/pattern

As you already know a shrug is just a long tube. Or a short tube for short sleeves or a square for a sleeveless shrug...Look at the measurement's (above) you'll need, then draw the pattern out on paper after you figure out your gauge (so you know how many stitches per inch you'll have with the yarn & tension you're using).

---> For more info write me here on ThriftyFun.

Have Fun!

If you are talking about crochet or knit objects, Google baby crochet (or knit) patterns. Good luck and God bless you. (02/03/2009)

Try FamilyFun.com for instructions on how to convert a kids sweatshirt into a shrug, in case you were not looking to knit or crochet one. Put "Sweatshirt Shrug" in the search box on the site. Speaking of coats, I made this one last Xmas for my niece's little dog, Swiffer. (02/06/2009)
