Hello,
We are still working on getting our new server system online. We have a shared load solution that we are trying to set up but sadly, the person at our ISP who knows how to set it up is out of town until next week. I apologize for any slowness on the website as we wait for the additional machines to be brought online. Thanks for your patience.
If anyone has any tips or ideas on how to help children succeed in school, feel free to submit them. If teachers have any tips to share, that would be wonderful as well. We will publish them next week.
Thanks for reading,
Susan

Removing Pepsi from Our School
This picture was taken of a Pepsi truck removing the pop machines from Hood River Valley High School. The recipe is to drink 8 glasses of water a day not pop! Drink 8 glasses of water a day not pop. I was glad they removed the pop machines from the schools yeah!

Post Card Framing
By Shauna Smith Duty
Ever feel like the tourist who has everything? Do you own more coffee mugs than a coffee shop? Have enough t-shirts to clothe an army? Here's a very classy way to display the most inexpensive of all vacation trinkets - the postcard.
What you'll need:
Directions:
Disassemble the frame. Trim the frosted paper to cover one sheet of the glass. Attach it to the glass, in the center, with double sided tape. Do not put tape on the edges. With a ruler, find the center of the paper and attach a piece of double sided tape to the spot. Place a few pieces of double sided tape on the back of the post card. Hold it over the frosted paper and make sure it's perfectly centered, then press and secure it onto the paper. Attach the top piece of glass and insert the stack into the frame.
For a set of coordinated framed post cards, vary the color of the frosted paper, but keep the frame style consistent, like in the photo.
Post Feedback: Click Here Indy (Pomeranian)
This is "Indy". He is a 2 1/2 month old pomeranian. We bought "Indy" from a local breeder July 9th of this year. Indy is very active and enjoys chewing stuffed toys and running. He loves chewing everything!
When we got him he only weighed 1 1/4 lbs. but now he is up to a whopping 2 1/2 lbs. He is an adorable ball of fluff. When fully grown he will be around 5 lbs. He enjoys posing for pictures. He thinks he is the boss of the house. We have had "Indy" since he was 5 1/2 weeks old.
It looks like Indy is sticking his tongue aout at the photographer but he is actually licking the flavor of a chew stick from his lips.

Ocean Spray has a cranberry-tea drink that looks so good but is rather costly. I came up with a cool way to have cranberry iced tea that's a lot cheaper. I buy the cheapest cranberry juice I can find, pour it into my ice cubed trays, and after it's frozen solid I fill up my cup with ice cubes and add tea over top. It's great! Perfect on a hot summer day.

I like to buy dog food in 40-50 lb. bags to save money but cannot fit the large bag upstairs where I feed my dogs. So I keep the large bag in the basement and fill an ice cream bucket with the food for storage upstairs.

I have seen on the news that Hurricane Katrina left many children separated from their parents; I cannot fathom being separated from my son, and could imagine that I'd be extremely panicked and would be trying everything possible to locate him. I started thinking that a child identification kit would be a good thing to have on hand, just in case.
Being the thrifty gal that I am (or maybe just plain cheap?!), I hopped on the internet and typed in "free child id kit" on the search engine. I got many results, but the site I chose was http://www.klaaskids.org They offer up to 5 free child ID kits. All you need to do is fill out a short order form and they'll mail you the kit(s) free.
They'll also send you information on what steps to take should your child be abducted or missing. I would encourage all parents to take a few minutes to request this freebie. No one wants to imagine something terrible like separation or abduction happening, but isn't it always better to be safe than sorry? Hope this information is helpful!

Tips for cleaning the tub, tiles around the tub and bathtub enclosures. Post your ideas.
Cleaning the Shower and Bath Tub
I always use a kitchen broom to wash the tub, There's no bending involved and both the tub and the broom get clean. I have used different products over the years but always with the broom. Try it, You won't think it's such a chore with the broom. We have a large shower now and are still scrubbing with the broom, it shines!

Do you buy those cheap cardboard furnace/ac filters and replace often throughout the year because they get dusty and dirty?
Even though they are cheap, I find that I can vacuum the dust off the filters carefully and reuse them.
I take the filter out of the furnace and other intake filters and take them to the garage or do the vacuuming on the floor. I use the hose of my vacuum and carefully suck all the dust. Remember not to rub the fine filters too hard. Then place the filter back in just as you found it.
It's best to do this often so as to not have your filter overflowing with dust. I probably check my furnace filters two/three times a year when I want to dust them myself.
Enjoy!

Clothes Develop a Musty Smell if They Get Wet or Damp While Worn
I never had this problem while I lived at my last house which was on city water. My current house is on a well. Anytime my shirts get damp from persperation - exercise, yard work, etc. they begin to eminate a musty odor. It resembles the smell which occurs if clothes are left in the washer overnight, and not placed immediately in the dryer.
I've tried everything - cold water detergent, bleach, borax, fabric softners and I place the clothes in the dryer immediately after washing. I'm sure there's something in the well water which is causing this, but I've had the water tested, and no abnormalities were discovered. Any ideas?
Thanks.

What to give an outstanding woman?
I have a friend who is just super. She is raising 3 young boys, one with a disability, she has a job with headstart, is starting college classes next week and still has time to keep the house clean, cook nutritious meals for her boys, take them to their extracurricular activities and take banjo lessons herself. But I know she is stressed.
I want to get her something to show her how great she is and something that will make her feel good. If you were/are this woman what type of gift would you most appreciate?

How to clean 30 years worth of dirt of a floor?
I've recently moved into a new house and am at my wits end trying to clean the kitchen floors. The floor is approximately 30 year old linoleum. This was previously a rental property, so you can imagine the mess. I've tried conventional floor cleaners and also clorox spray cleaner. Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated since I can't afford to replace the floor any time soon.

We have a 1940's bungalow that had cheap wood paneling in three rooms. We painted one room and decided to remove the paneling in other two rooms that had plaster behind them. We tore it down, removed all nails and scraped the chunks of glue off, leaving behind the stains from the glue strips. We then textured the walls, primed the walls and used 3 coats of good quality paint. It was fine for about 6 months until the glue stripes started to show through, even through the olive paint in one room. How do we go about getting these stains covered up permanently without putting up sheet rock?

Best Cleaner for Worn Wood Floors
We have worn wooden floors in our dining room, the finish is worn away in spots. All of the cleaning andwaxing products I've seen say not to use them on scratched floors.
I can't afford to refinish right now. So what CAN I use to have my floors looking as good as possible?
Thanks for your help.

Theme Ideas for Spring Fundraiser Dance
We are having a fundraiser dance with silent auction this spring. Money raised will go toward improvements to the town "Herrick Park". We are holding the dance at a local Greek restaurant in the process of building a large banquet addition. We will be the first "event" held there.
Ideally we would like the theme to somehow reflect three things: the grand opening of the banquet hall, the improvements to the park, and the fact that it is springtime. I realize that fidning a theme that includes all three might be a stretch. I would be happy with any theme recommendations for any one of the three.
A few suggestions already given were an Olympic theme (since the Olympics started in Greece) and "Party at the Parthenon".
Thank you so much for any help!

My husband will retire in about 4 years and presently all his IRA money is in stock mutual funds. I have been reading that when you get that close to retirement, your money should not be in stocks. What else can we put it in that will give us a little more than the 3% savings and money markets are paying?

Planning a Harvest Festival For a Church
My church has a harvest festival every year instead of celebrating Halloween. It's mostly geared toward younger children, about 2 and up. I need some really good party ideas but nothing cheezy. We have planned thus far to have a scavenger hunt, a costume and dance contest. But what else could they do? We wanted to do a fun house but it's difficult because we are a church. Please help with any ideas, favors, decorations etc.

Remove Numbers from Football Jerseys
I'm a Cleveland Browns Fan and I have a big problem. Over the years friends of mine have bought me Football Jerseys of players who are no longer playing with the Browns, hence making my jerseys useless. I would like to remove the painted on numbers and names, but I don't know how or what to use. The jerseys are either 100% polyester or 100% nylon. Any suggestions?

Why is this? did I forget something that keeps the flapper up while the water goes into the bowl? Thanks for anyone that knows anything about this stuff!
