Valentines Through The Years

This is a collection that my husband has made for me for Valentines Day for a number of years. We've been married 57 years so you can see the romance has not gone out of our marriage. A styrofoam heart reads "My heart is never heavy because you're mine". He glued hay (we are farmers) on one. It reads "Hay you! I love you!" I hope you can read some of the others.

Update: This is the 2008 addition to the collection of Valentines that I sent previously. So I'm still his Valentine! Thanks for your sweet comments.

Twig Art Chair

Using very dry branches, wire, glue and coco fiber mat, I made these two chairs for decorative effect. On the wall behind the one chair with orange flowers on it is a twig trellis on the wall. Twig art is fun as long as you remember to have dry wood to work with.

Use Tape To Keep Bedding In Place

To keep your bedding from falling on the floor, and making the bed in the morning a snap, just use sock tape (used by hockey players to keep their socks up) on the two bottom corners of the covers. Start the tape on the top and wrap it straight down, lift the corner of the mattress and bring it up the other side to the top. I tape the mattress cover on all 4 corners to keep it snug and then tape the bottom corners of the cover sheet and quilt. In the morning all you have to do is pull your covers up. I have a king size bed so this doesn't interfere with my leg room. On wash day, just toss the old tape and re-tape the clean sheets and blankets. It doesn't look fancy but it sure saves work. The bedspread will cover your secret.

Zues (Boxer)

Hi my name is Zues! I love TENNIS BALLS! This is my crazy ball face! When I see a ball I go crazy! When I'm good my owners will give me a ball I can play with that ball all day long (unless I accidentally lose it.) For me, a ball is like a treat. I've learned not to jump on guests, sit, lay down, speak, and shake, someday I'll learn how to roll over. So for all you boxer lovers, be nice and get your buddy a tennis ball.

Today's Tips:

Ask Kids To Not Bring Gifts To Birthday Parties

OFor those of you who are sending invitations to your child's birthday party, think about asking them NOT to bring a gift. (This is what my daughter does) That way, those with multiple children in the family that go to a lot of parties or those with low incomes, or have a parent who has recently lost their job can afford to come! This is SOOOO very important in these days of layoffs and hard times! I raised 4 children on a "shoestring" and can remember sometimes telling my kids they couldn't go to a party because we couldn't afford to buy another birthday gift. (That was in the days BEFORE dollar stores)

If you are a parent on a super-tight budget, you can do what my daughter did: Get a bag and fill it with 5 toys from the dollar store. She recently did this and it was the birthday girl's favorite gift!

Turn Dish Washer Off Before the Dry Cycle to Save Energy

Save energy costs by turning off your dishwasher after the rinse cycle and before the dry cycle. Leave the dishwasher door slightly ajar, and let your dishes air dry. You can dry with a towel if you need them right away.

Calendar Wall Art

Do you want to recycle old calendars and make your home look good? Here's what I did. My husband is a railroader and had a calendar with trains on it. The pictures were wonderful. At the end of the year, I bought some cheap frames from the Goodwill store, cut the pictures off the calendar and matted and framed them. They now hang in my family room downstairs. They look great. You could never tell they were off a calendar! Cheap too. The cost of the calendar (which I would have recycled anyway) and a buck for a frame at Goodwill.)

Nursing A Dog Through Parvo

I know most people believe that if a dog gets parvo he will die and his only chance is a vet. But that is not true. Several years ago I took a pup I had to the vet and was told he had parvo and they would keep him for a day or two and give him a IV to keep him hydrated but chances of him living was 25% and it would cost me $300 or more. I could nor afford it so we brought him home and gave him Pepto-Bismol (generic), Pedialyte (yes what you give babies) and broth (I gave him chicken and beef broth). The vet gave me antibiotics. His name is BJ and he is a very healthy and active dog now. You just have to be willing to take time to truly care for your dog.

How Do You Get a Nintendo Wii?

To score a hard to find a Nintendo Wii Console, here's what I did:

First, I searched online for all stores that sell video game consoles and checked to see if they were in stock. (Most websites are NOT in stock online and some will have features to show if the store actually has any in stock) Hint: You can do a browser search for "Wii finder" to get help finding online stores as well.

Second, I searched Ebay who is in stock but decided prices were way to high!

Third, make a list of all local stores selling Video game consoles. Add their phone numbers and addresses to the list.

It's important to include this information because when you locate a Wii you will have to get to the store ASAP. There will be no time to look up addresses.

Every day go down the list and call the selected stores. I suggest calling upon opening in the morning (thats when some Wii shipments arrive). When calling don't forget to inquire when the stores daily or weekly shipments arrive. Get as much information about this and jot it beside your list. It all helps in your quest for the Wii.

If you find out a shipment arrives throughout the day, call slightly after that time to allow for unpacking of the shipment.

Fourth, enter all Nintendo Wii related contests. I personally, did a search on my favorite contesting forums and entered them. In my search, I covered all angles for getting a Wii! :)

These tips should help you in your quest to find a Nintendo Wii Console. Good Luck and enjoy the hunt!

Getting the Last of a Can of Paint

To coax the last little bit of paint out of a can, use a church key or can opener to punch a small hole in the side of the can just below the lip. Now the paint will flow out instead of gathering around the rim inside the can.

Re-Dye Lint Covered Black Clothes

When my knit black pants or dress get covered with lint, I don't throw them out. I simply buy some black dye, run through the washing machine and, presto, I'm the only one that knows that the lint has been dyed to match the clothing. Makes clothes look new every time!

Marinate Veggies In Pickle Juice

When the pickle jar gets empty, don't throw out that pickle juice. Drop carrot sticks or zucchini slices into the juice and let marinade for a few days. This makes a delicious, healthy snack.

Use Cast Iron Whenever Possible

Whenever possible, use cast iron cookware. The iron from the pan really does "leech out" into the foods you cook, adding iron to your diet. This is especially if the foods you cook in the cast iron pan are acidic (i.e. tomatoes, etc.)

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

A boy was teaching a girl arithmetic, he said it was his mission.

He kissed her once; he kissed her twice and said, "Now that's addition."

In silent satisfaction, she sweetly gave the kisses back and said, "Now that's subtraction."

Then he kissed her, she kissed him, without an explanation. And both together smiled and said, "That's multiplication."

Then her Dad appeared upon the scene and made a quick decision. He kicked that boy three blocks away and said, "That's long division!"

Computer's F11 Key Doesn't Work

My F11 button on my computer does not work 99% of the time. Because of recent updates on my computer, most of the time the box to write the chat in while playing games is all but cut off. The button doesn't work unless by chance. There is a link to do it another way, but that is only on screens with the tool bars at the top. The game page doesn't have those links. Anyone have any other suggestions? If we get the screen to enlarge , it surprises us so much we don't remember how we did it.
