Cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you may start to receive sales calls. Call this number from your cell phone 888-382-2220 or register on line at http://www.donotcall.gov. It is the Federal Trade Commission nation Do Not Call list. It only takes a minute and it blocks your number for 5 years.

FCC says it's untrue:

I have Verizon & they announced from the beginning they won't be giving anyone's # out. I doubt the government would be that stupid to pass anything allowing them to. Not that they don't do plenty of stupid things.

See the Federal Trade Commisson site: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2005/04/dnc.htm

One thing is for sure... the telemarketers want to do it. So we need to stay informed and make sure our representatives in congress know that this is not acceptable. Cellphones are expensive enough, I don't want marketers using any of my minutes.

Here is what Snopes says:

There have been bills recently which are being considered to allow this. So far, none of them have passed. Probably because the congress folk have cell phones.

We've heard this is a hoax. Telemarketers can't use your cell phone #.
