Hooks For Hanging Jewelry

My necklaces kept getting tangled up in the box so I super-glued this piece of wood, with hooks attached, to the inside of the wardrobe door. It is much handier and I can see at a glance what I have.

Scenery: California Cornfield

My cousin loves to garden and lives in the country of central California. On our recent family visit to his town my nephew walked around the grown corn because he had never seen it up close, since he lives in the city. Watching him walk through the corn reminded me of my now deceased father, so I just had to snap this beautiful picture.

Kiara (Ki-ki) is 10 months old and a Blue Standard Poodle. We got her about a month ago from a friend as a gift!

Ki-ki LOVES to play with rope bones and chew on her nylabones. She also enjoys frolicking in the yard with her 2 friends our toy poodles. As well as taking LONG walks 2 times a day!

Ki-ki is getting ready to train for her career as an agility dog competing in AKC and UKC agility/rally and Obedience competitions, as well as dock jumping and water retrieval sports!

Jazz (Pointer Lab)

Jazz is an 11 months old Pointer Lab. For Christmas 2008, I rescued her from an Animal Managment group where people take animals they do not want anymore. She is such a joy to have and probably the best Christmas present you could get.

Jazz loves to go to "Doggy Day Care" and play with her friends Gracie, Roger-Dodger, Tito, Cody and more. She is smart, can do all of the basic tricks like sit, shake, lay down and beg. She also loves to snuggle with you and watch a good movie, lay in the sun and well, I think she just loves her life now. How lucky I feel to have her.

Today's Tips:

Freeze Water Containers for Emergencies

This is an excellent suggestion that was printed recently in our local paper as a tip for power failures during storms: make freezer packs by placing water filled water jugs, plastic pop bottles, or gallon ice cream containers in the deep freeze.

These can be used in the freezer or refrigerator during outages to help keep them cold. If the door is not opened too much it should help to keep the food frozen for several days. As a hurricane approaches us I now have as many in the freezer as I had room for.

Preparation H for Poison Ivy

Have Poison Ivy? All you need is Preparation H-Cooling Gel! It not only cools and soothes the itch, it shrinks the lesions as well. It's not just for hemorrhoids anymore!

I had it all over my hands, and completely avoided taking steroids for it. In a matter of two days, it was gone. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Organize Tax Records With an Accordion File

Tax records were always a problem for me. I now use an accordion file folder with 12 slots. I use one for each month. I keep it next to my computer since I do most of my bills on line. When I have a receipt, bank statement or other important tax item, I just put it in the current month's slot.

I have also started a sheet of paper for each month, where I list the receipt and what it is for. If I need to locate a receipt for any reason, it is easy to read the sheets rather than dig through the file.

At year's end, I take the folder to our tax accountant and she is thrilled not getting a shoe box full of little scraps of paper! I save money on taxes because I never miss a deduction. I also lower my stress level at tax time, because I am ready to go!

Note: Cheapest and best time to purchase the folder is August when school supplies are plentiful and on sale.

Crimp Toilet Paper Roll to Save

I just wanted to share that I found a way to save on toilet paper. Just put a crimp in it so that it does not go round and round so easily. By having the crimp, it stops and allows you to use a smaller amount instead of the waste of what you don't really need.

Buy Extra Bread and Freeze

Saving time is saving money, and that means less trips to the grocery store to pick up a loaf of bread. I buy six loaves of bread at a time and put the in my freezer.

Bread placed on the counter to thaw will be soggy on the bottom and will get hard and unusable.

The big secret is, when you remove a loaf from the freezer, place it on a dish rack, or across a cooling rack of some sort so the air can circulate beneath the loaf. When it is thawed, it tastes like it is right out of the oven.

Post Office Joke

A little boy was waiting for his mother to come out of the grocery store. As he waited, he was approached by a man who asked, "Son, can you tell me where the Post Office is?"

The little boy replied, "Sure! Just go straight down this street a couple of blocks and turn to your right."

The man thanked the boy kindly and said, "I'm the new pastor in town. I'd like for you to come to church on Sunday. I'll show you how to get to Heaven."

The little boy replied with a chuckle. "Awww, come on. You don't even know the way to the Post Office."

Birthday Box for College

Our older daughter recently went away to college for the first time, and will not be home until after her birthday to celebrate. So her 18th birthday will not pass by unnoticed while she is at school, I put together a birthday in a box that can be used by her suite mates help her celebrate!

I took a shoebox and filled it with the following items (some from leftover birthday parties of the past and some new from the dollar store and garage sales).

1)Balloons and a decorative balloon on a stick
2)Confetti
3)Party hats
4)Noise makers
5)Hanging "Happy Birthday" sign
6)Singing Photo frame
7)Plastic cupcake
8)Cupcake shaped plate
9)Loot bags

I will mail this to her room mate about a week before her special day. The items are silly, but should bring a smile to her face.

I may also send a cookie bouquet or a DQ cake gift certificate to round out the festivities!

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

I couldn't help overhearing a man at a nearby pay phone. "I know it's something you want," he said earnestly, "but I don't think tattoos are a good idea. And the same goes for body piercing. As long as you're living in my house, I think you should respect my wishes."

I was secretly cheering him on for his fatherly firmness.

Then came the 'coup de grace': "Besides, Mom, you're 75 years old! You don't NEED a tattoo!"

Wedding Reception Locations on Brooklyn

I need some advice. I am looking to rent a venue for my wedding reception of about 150 people. My budget is 5k-7500. My wedding is in April and I am getting married in my church. I would like my reception to start at 6 pm. At this point I am so frustrated. I don't care if it's a restaurant, party hall, catered hall, as long as it's in my budget. Thanks everyone.

Preparing to Paint

I have used a Dawn and water solution to remove the glue from a mural. It worked really well to remove the glue. But now as I am rinsing the wall with warm water I find I have lots of soap residue on the walls. Is it necessary to rinse until there is no more soap? Or can I let it dry and paint? Or is there something else I could do to remove the soap?

I have a strange odor emanating from my body. It's not a "BO" odor, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for when it starts. Ideas for Boyfriend's 25th Birthday

My boyfriend's turning 25 in two weeks. I'm younger and still in school, so I don't have too much money to spend. He buys everything he wants for himself, so I don't know what to get him. Any ideas?

I was thinking of splurging and taking him away for a night, but I'm nervous about the cost, and my parents (who I still live with) aren't too keen on the idea.

I would like to do something somewhat sexy/sweet or at least romantic, but not too expensive. I know of plenty of books or DVDs I could get him, but I want to do something a little bit more meaningful or at least more personal, plus it's his 25th. It's sort of a big one. Any ideas? Thanks.

Cat Rolls in Dust

Is it normal for a healthy cat to constantly roll in soft powdery dirt? I can't help but laugh, he looks like he loves it and is having the time of his life as he lays on his back and rubs back and forth in the dirt (like a dog). The only problem is, he comes inside and shakes. I thought cats like to be clean?
