Any ideas on how to get rid of ant? The little red ones that are all over the yard and come into the house where ever they want to. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work. We never had them until about 10 years ago and now, as soon as the weather warms up in the spring, we fight them all summer long. I've tried traps, spray, cornmeal, bleach, on and on. It's getting really old.
I have finally gotten ride of them in the kitchen as long as it is a 'crumb-free' zone, but they are now in my dining room (carpetted). I don't use the dining room as a 'dining room' so there is no food, but I can't get rid of them. I have a cat so I am weary to use ant traps - any natural way to get rid of them. I'm becoming phobic with these pesky creatures! I have to fed the cat on a small table so the ants don't surround her food. I can't stand it anymore - any help?
This might sound ridiculous to some but if you dont want ants in you house draw a white chalk line on your steps just before the door entrance. They say ants will not cross the line. This could be why the baby powder trick works. We had ant hills in our driveway and we drew a line across the driveway near the road and no longer had ant hills good luck
My Mother-in-law showed me this one. We both had the same problem and I have children in the house so I didn't want to use a commercial ant killer. Generously sprinkle baby powder in doorways and anywhere else the ants are getting in. I don't know if it kills them or just keeps them out, but either way they stay out of your house.
I would pour boiling water on the red ant hill, be careful not to fall with the pot of boiling water. Also, I tried raw grits. I would pour about a cup or so on top of the hill. Supposedly they eat the grits & explode. I don't know if that's what happenes, but it works. Both of these ideas are safe for the environment.
Cinnamon will deter them from entering a doorway. You can also use ant traps which contain boric acid, be sure to keep away from small children and other pets.
Hi there! I use ammonia diluted in water in a spray bottle to get rid of ants. (1 part ammonia to 3 parts water). I spray the ants and trace the source of trails and spray that area for a week. i also keep a food-debris-free house. Hope this helps!
I spray vinegar (white) on the spots where I see them. I noticed when I mopped or cleaned with it, they weren't as bad. Good luck, I know they can drive you crazy.
Try a product called Terro. You can buy it in a hardware store. It comes in a little bottle and has the consistantcy of fingernail polish. Put a drop on a small piece of cardboard and put it where the ants are. They will carry it back to their nest,and it kills them all. It usually takes about a week to get rid of them. Doug
