Wild Turkeys - Backyard Wildlife
I am a very lucky woman. This picture was taken this morning as I looked out my kitchen window. It is such fun to stand there doing my dishes and never knowing what is going to turn up to eat out in our backyard. These turkeys show up on a regular basis to dine on the corn we put out for them.

Save on Hair Coloring
Hair color solutions can be used twice. Just buy a small plastic bottle with applicator tip or save the last one from your hair color application along with the plastic gloves. Save half the hair color in the original tube and put half the creme developer in the saved applicator bottle. 2 for the price of 1 will cut your costs in half.

Talking After Dinner Joke
An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating; the wives left the table and went into the kitchen. The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, "Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great. I would recommend it very highly."
The other man said, "What is the name of the restaurant?"
The first man thought and thought and finally said, "What is the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know... the one that's red and has thorns."
"Do you mean a rose?"
"Yes, that's the one," replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, "Hey, Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?"

Making Roux For Gumbo
To make roux I use a large glass mixing bowl and add about a cup of flour to 1/2 cup oil. Mix with a whisk. Put in microwave and cook until brown whisking often. It will burn real easily if not whisked often. Usually takes about 8 minutes to cook to a nice brown. You can adjust the ingredients to taste and size. I like to make a lot and store in the refrigerator to use in gumbos and gravies. It will keep forever.

Link Cake Pan With Foil
When baking a cake instead of greasing and flouring the pan, line it with aluminum foil. After baking let the pan cool down and place the cake pan and all in the refrigerator to chill. When ready to frost the cake will lift out and you can easily peel the foil off the cake which will make it easier to icing.

Changing to Diet Coke
I needed to start losing weight. Since I drink Cokes all day as my coffee I thought I would start drinking Diet Cokes instead but hated the taste of Diet. I use a screw top plastic bottle and pour canned cokes into it. (This is nice to drop in the purse since it has a tight lid it won't spill.) I started adding a little diet coke to my regular coke and gradually increased the diet coke and decreased the regular coke until I was drinking straight diet coke. I have now lost 20 pounds in a very short while.

Keeping Pet Toys From Going Under Furniture
Is the dog always knocking his toys under the entertainment center, bookcase, or sofa, forcing you to get down on all fours to retrieve his lost treasure?
If so, consider getting a piece of clear plastic, plexiglas, or lucite and securing it to the bottom of those pieces of furniture, just between the legs.
Not only will this save you backstrain, but it will work almost invisibly and help you cut down on dust under the furniture!

Minimizing Cigarette Smoke and Odors
I don't smoke but my family does and I know these work. To get rid of smoke and smoke odor, there are two things you can do. One: keep a candle lit while smoking, the flame draws the smoke and absorbs it. Or, two: keep a small dish or cup of vinegar near by. The vinegar absorbs the smoke. You can tell when to change the vinegar by the color. When the top becomes dark, dump it and pour fresh. How often you need to change it depends on how much smoking is going on.

Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from Hair
Instead of going to the salon for a "Malibu Treatment" to remove rust/hard water build-up, use 1-2 packets of lemonade (any brand will do) add a little water to make it like a thick paste. Be careful too much water will make it runny! Work into wet hair, leave on for 15-10 minutes! Rinse out & wash with your regular shampoo. Use a towel or shower cap. The mixture will sting/burn when in contact with your skin, just like in the salon. It works! I have blond hair and have rusty water so I use this about every 1 to 2 months!

Keeping Necklaces Organized
To keep necklaces organized, use a 12 by 4 inch piece of wood, (thick enough to screw hooks into without them poking out the back) and medium to large screw-in-cup holders. Add picture hangers to the back of the wood. Screw in 3-4 cup holders evenly spaced across the front of the wood. Hang on the wall. Add your necklaces. You can see your necklaces at a glance, no more searching, no more tangled chains.

Birthday Party With A Pirate Theme
My grandson was turning five and wanted a pirate party. My son is twenty-two years old and his old jungle gym is still standing in perfect condition; after reviewing it, I decided that would be the perfect spot for "walk the plank". I got a 2x4 and ran it across the ends of the steps with enough room so that the board can move like a diving board. I filled up a pool knee high with water for the children to jump into. This was called "Shark Cove".
Oh, by the way, I also designed the jungle gym to resemble a ship that got ship wrecked. I used tin roofing that I salvage from a home that was having a roof done in shingles. The pieces were a perfect fit. I then got twine rope and did the sails string. I used netting on one side and decorated with fishes and lifesaver tire type, hung a sail and designed a pirate banner, used blue tarp to resemble water and plastic greenery for algae on the bottom of the ship. I wrote "Captain John 5" on one side of the ship.
I had treasure hunts signs thorough out the yard. On one corner a plastic pool with water called the "lost lagoon" with a bottle message (when found, this was where they were to locate the moonwalk and jump until the next hunt).
On the piñata, a special made (pirate), across the tree branches was called "pirate rock" (a piñata is hard like a rock), a treasure hope chest that I had perfected to resemble a treasure box that held his gifts (the message was "John's Treasure Loots")
When opening presents, time to eat was called "pirates bones" (serving hot dogs with a pirate theme). The cake designed and made by me was a pirate skull with crossbones). The fence was decorated with banners designed and made by me and had a sign welcoming guests to Captain John's Pirate Party and the skull had a five on the forehead, with a treasure map of layouts of the events, letting them know that they were on step 1 of the treasure hunt, by arriving on treasure island.
The whole house, even the bathroom, was decorated with a pirates theme and fishing netting. The children received a treasure box too filled with candies, a tattoo, mustache, and eye patch. It was awesome sight when they were putting wearing a mustache, pirate hats, and walking the plank. They received a toy sword for being a brave pirate and walking the plank. I also designed my grandson's outfit.

Saving Water and Wear and Tear on Your Well Pump
Since we are on a well and not city water my husband is always trying to save wear on our pump. He purchased a special shower head that you turn off after you get wet and are soaping up or shampooing. It works great and by measuring the water by putting the plug in. We only use between 2 - 2 1/2 gallons of water per shower. Plenty to get clean and rinsed. I use a small amount more when shaving legs.

Reusing Plastic Soda Bottles Instead of Buying Ice
When we purchase soda in the small plastic bottles, 16 or 22 ounce size we always keep the bottles and wash them out. If we go fishing or take a small road trip to my mother in laws house that is 4 hours away we always freeze two of the larger ones and put water in the smaller ones and fill a small cooler with them. Our water is great and it keeps us from spending too much on extra soda. We are trying to drink more water.
Also, when we purchase soda in the 2 litre bottles we keep a few of them to freeze and put into the bottom of our big cooler for when we go camping. No money spent for ice to keep things cold. And no mess.

Sinking In Debt, More Bills Than Income
We have over $22,000.00 in credit card debt, 2 car payments and can't get rid of them for we owe more than they are worth, a house payment and heloc loan we got when we purchased our home for the down payment, medical bills, and the utility bills.
WE have an 18 y/o senior without a car but she works a part time job which is not enough to save for a car, she has a 3.86 grade point average but has not qualified for a college scholarship which she needs desperately.
Bottom line is that we have way more bills than income and are sinking fast. I am married and mother of two. I hardly know them anymore for I work all I can.
The bills are all paid on time so far but I know without a miracle, we will sink . Does anyone out there have an answer that will give us some hope? Your help is much appreciated.
My husband is out of work on medical leave in which doctor will not release him to work at this time. He still has insurance from his job but has used up his disabilty money which has left him with no income but his company is still providing the medical insurance.
I am a nurse and work hard. We are not lazy people but I know we have made bad choices. Thank you in advance for some good advice and your prayers most of all.

Weed Identification
Can anyone recommend a good site/book for weed identification? I know I sound like a real brainless wonder but I haven't a clue which plants are weeds and which were planted purposefully. I just started renting a house in a subdivision that is very strict with regard to weed maintenance and I need to know what I should and should not get rid of.
There are some plants that seem to be weeds...they shot up quickly and look like sin. Still, since I do not have direct contact with the homeowner I would hate to pull something that wasn't meant to be pulled. Any help would be appreciated. :)
PS: I also want to get rid of any plants that may be harmful to my two dogs. If anyone has any tips as to how I can identify poisonous plants I would be eternally grateful. I Need Bankruptcy Advice
I need some good advice. My husband just lost his job after several years at the same employer and I am not working due to disability. We have been considering bankruptcy in the past, and now with him losing his job, we have no where to turn. Does anyone know what you can keep with the new laws?
We live in New York State. I am scared to death about this whole situation. I am hearing from differant people that you have to appear in court? Do you really have to do that? This is so embarassing.
Besides credit cards we have a new car loan, a motorcycle loan that we have been paying faithfully for 3 years and a mortgage payment. My husband used the motorcycle for work when he was working, since the gas prices are so high. Please help! Thanks.

Hot Pink, Blue, and White Wedding Colors
I am planning my wedding. It is hard to decide on colors. I wanted royal blue, silver, and white, but I was told that the flowers would probably look black in the pictures and it is hard to find royal blue items. So I think I am going to go with hot or bright pink.
On a wedding site, they suggested hot pink, blue and white. Does anybody have any ideas how to make this work? What shade of blue? What flowers? I am thinking of a bright blue not baby blue to match the brightness of pink.
Any suggestions or ideas would help! Thanks!

Unique and Unusual Baby Names

Today one of the biggest trends in naming is choosing a unique name. Those of us who grew up in the 70's and 80's undoubtedly knew multiple Jennifers, Amys, Michaels and Johns, and many parents want their child to have a more unusual name. Parents have dusted off old classics, combined names and altered spellings in the hopes of saving their child from the fate of being known throughout their school years as "Amy with a Y" or "Michael R, the one with brown hair." So how do you find a name that is unique and unusual? Here are some suggestions, along with a few warnings.
