PB&J Helps Medicine Go Down - Dorothy (Pug)

A spoonful of PB&J helps the medicine go down When giving a pill to a puppy/dog who DOESN'T like taking them, try putting some Peanut Butter and Jelly on a spoon, hide the pill in it. Pups LOVE the peanut butter, and the jelly helps it slide down.

My dogs name is Dorothy. She's a very curious little pug. Always investigating the scenery. Had she been a male, we might have named her "Sherlock". She was born on July 14th 2005

Castle Cake

Castle cake for your Little prince or princess:

Mix as directed 1 1/2 box Favorite cake mix.

Pour into oval pan or regular rectangle pan and cut into oval after baking as directed on box. Make sure to save enough batter for 4 cupcakes.

Place 4 oiled toilet paper rolls in 4 sections of the cupcake pan, then fill 2/3 full with batter. Bake about 6-10 mins.

You will need 2 cans each: white base icing and aerosol canned icing to make towers and frills. You can also make a door on the side.

After icing sprinkle with colored sugar sprinkles. You can cut 4 little triangles from paper for flags and glue them to toothpicks. Happy Birthday

Kitties in the Potty

Help! I think my toddler needs more fiber in his diet! Ha-ha, these are our new kittens when they were about 9 weeks old playing in the potty chair. My 2 year old is still too young to use it but we wanted him to get used to seeing it, when the kittens decided to make use of it!

Today's Tips

Removing Pedialyte Stains

This tip is for removing purple stains (pedialyte) on white cotton shirts... You'll need a mixing bowl, a rubberband, the fabric with the stain, peroxide, and white vinegar. Place the fabric over the mixing bowl centering the stain within the rim of the bowl. Use the rubber band to hold the fabric in place by wrapping it around the edge. This is to keep the process neat and clean by catching the liquids. Pour the peroxide on the stain, gently rubbing the stain with your fingertip. Repeat this as many times as it takes, you'll see the stain just disappear. Then remove fabric from bowl, rinse with vinegar for one minute. Finally throw the fabric in the wash on a cold cycle. You'll be amazed, my brother was going to throw a shirt away a high dollar shirt, but I saved it.

Using Found "Pans" in Baking

I am a long time baker and would like to share this tip with all. I make all different shapes and sizes or cakes and have found that you can only purchase the typical pans in the stores. I entered a bake-off contest for Hellman's and I wanted to make a cake that resembled a mayonnaise jar. Lo and behold, I baked the cake in a coffee can. I have been making all different shape cakes by using cans and tins that cookies and candies come in and they are terrific. Why spend money on specialized pans when you can re-use what you have in your own cupboard. Just remember to grease the pans well. Hope this helps anyone out there who can't afford to buy pans that are so expensive. Just use your imagination and see what you come up with.

Create a Helpful Neighbor Group

Check around and see who in the area is interested. This is what it could include: if you are going grocery shopping ask the neighbor if they need a few things. If you are picking up takeout see if the neighbor wants something. If a neighbor is going out of town, pop in and feed the pet. Swap magazines and rented videos. And I am sure we could all think up more!

Wedding Best Wishes Scrapbook Idea

When my husband and I got married we were determined to pay for everything on our own. I was really into scrapbooking so we had someone sit at the entrance to the wedding and take pictures of all the guests and have them sign a best wishes type message with their name. After all the pictures were developed we put the book together with the messages and now have a beautiful memento of our special day.

Poem:"Through the Eyes of a Survivor"

Through the Eyes of a Survivor

How dare it happen to me?

How can I wake up, thinking I'm home

When there is no home?

How can I remember every little treasure,

Every picture, every nuance

When it's like it never existed?

It was a moment ago.

It was a lifetime ago.

It must be someone else.

It can't have happened to me.

How dare the stars shine, still in their same places

When nothing in my life is the same?

How dare the sun rise?

I want to be in the dark

So I can't see

And I can make believe it's all still here.

How dare it happen to me?

Editor's Note: I checked up on DP to make sure that she safe after the hurricanes. She said she is fine and figures that it was inspired from seeing all of those that lost so much.

Leaves Dying on an Avacado Plant

We have an avocado plant started from seed which is really shooting up. It has nice large leaves on it but the lower leaves keep turning, curling and dying off. No problem with new ones sprouting but why are the lower leaves turning? It is about 20-24" tall. Do we need to bring it in for the winter? What do I need to do to keep it alive thru the winter?

Trisodium EDTA in Laundry

I have a question about Trisodium EDTA: From what I have read about Trisodium EDTA it chelates (combines with) calcium and iron. I have an abundance of both Ca and Fe in my water and want to know if this would be a good additive to my laundry powder (homemade). I already use vinegar in the rinse to help with the calcium problem but I also need something to prevent the discoloration caused by the iron. How much should I use per laundry load?

Burnt Stainless Steel Pan

I totally burnt a stainless steel pan by attempting to create a simple syrup for my iced tea. I put the pan on to boil, and went to the computer. Bad mistake. After I got the smoke out of the house and dealt with the fire department (that some well-meaning person called), I now have this pan to clean. Boiling with soda helped a lot, but, there is still a fourth of the burnt on marks that I cannot get off the pan.

I even tried cooking tomatoes in it. That was a waste of tomatoes. I am going to go ahead and use it and watch for black particles, but wondered what else I could use to thoroughly clean it. I have also used Barkeepers friend, and a stainless steel "scratcher". Still have burnt on stuff on the pan. Word to the wise, boiling Barkeepers Friend in the pan doesn't help, either.

Any more ideas?

Thank you,
Jackie in Wixom, Mi

Contact Dermatitis Help

My best friend has a severe case of contact dermatitis. His arms are scarred from all the itching. His face, arms and hands become VERY irritated and break out. He's 40 and this has only been happening for about 4 years. His dermatologist gave him an allergy test and he's allergic to almost everything now. We know it has a lot to do with his immune system.

He's been taking vitamins, antioxidants, and TONS of medicated creams and ointments. They barely even offer temporary relief. I feel so unbelievably terrible for him. This is becoming unbearable for him.

Does anyone have any experience with this condition? Please share. Thanks.

"Miracles in Bloom" Centerpieces

I am planning a big event for a non-profit organization. The theme is "Miracles in Bloom" (It is all about gardening and growing up). I need to make (or buy) centerpieces for 75 tables. I found terra cotta pots for .52 each, so that leaves me with about $100 to complete the look. Any ideas on what I can fill them with to make attractive centerpieces that one person at each table will want to take home? Thanks so much!

Taylor from Orlando, FL
