April Fools!! I tried this and it went to the drain, got caught and kept the water running. In my rescue attempt to dig out the pieces of soap my hand got gunky black. Lots of fun. It does need something to keep it in the corner out of the way... any new suggestions how?
I tried the soap pieces also and made a mess too. The soap pieces turned to a blob, caught under the flapper which made the water run for hours, filled up my septic system, set off the alarm. This is not a good idea at all in my opinion. Maybe liquid soap but not a piece which causes a clog.
Harlean from Arkansas, those troubles aren't from a piece of soap under the flapper you have a problem in your septic/drain field to cause water to back up in other shower. This seems like a good idea but will try to secure my pieces to the tank in something thanks for the tip.
Well, I am not a plumber, but I can tell you that I tried this today after reading it last night. After supper tonite, I had the biggest mess in my bathroom...when I flushed the toilet, the soap piece slid right into the part where the water enters the bowl,(Under the flap in the bottom of the tank) and plugged it up. I had water backed up on my bathroom floor and also in the shower in my other bathroom. I had to keep plunging and running water until the piece of soap washed on through. But I definitely would not recommend anyone to try this.

I LOVE THIS IDEA OF YOURS but would be so afraid that it would cause my toilet to plug up somehow. I would be very, very interested in hearing from a plumber if this would hurt the toilet. IF it doesn't I will try it out...thanks for the great idea though.
I would think that the soap would cause a bildup in the comode. Bar soap makes a scumb in the tub and shower; for that reason I use only liquid soap.
I would love the hear from a plumber if this is safe....personally I do not see a problem. I am going to try it. Thanks Jan
