Heart Healthy Pie Crust

Silver Post Medal for All Time! 306 Posts

Having no choice but to take care of our health, has taught me to find new and better ways of cooking. This pie crust recipe works well for us.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. milk
  • 1/2 cup canola oil

Directions:

Mix the ingredients and press evenly into a 9 inch pie plate.

Tips: Crumble the dough evenly into the pie plate and then pat into place with your fingers to evenly distribute the dough on the bottom of the pan and up the sides.

If you need a baked unfilled shell, I suggest baking the shell at 375 degrees F for about 18 minutes. You want it to be slightly golden so watch carefully.

As a retired professor of nutrition, may I suggest that you research the health dangers of eating any white flour foods. Only cook with whole wheat flour, and eat bread labeled "Whole Grain". Refined white flour is converted to sugar in the blood. Very unhealthy. It's healthier to make your own bread, using only whole wheat flour. Google "Whole Wheat Quick Breads". Don't add any sugar to anything. Some call it "The White Death".

Use very small amounts of first cold pressed olive oil. Make food taste more appetizing by adding herbs, spices, no sodium, no fat chicken bouillon, chopped onion, garlic, bell pepper, and olives. Eat fruit for dessert, no cakes, pies, cookies, etc. unless you do your research and make them "Heart Healthy". Eat lots of veggies, too, seasoned with fat/sodium free chicken bouillon & a tsp. olive oil.
