I'm looking for a no cost or low cost vet in my area. My cat has an infection in her eye and she has started to drop weight. I need help, but I can't afford a vet.

Go to your local pet store and get some Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment and use in the cat's eye twice a day after wiping it with warm water on a disposable cotton pad. This isn't real cheap. Mine cost $17 for a very small tube but you only need a small amount each time. I once cured a dog that had an ulcer on her eye that everyone said she was going to lose her eye from. The weight loss may have nothing to do with the eye.

Call your local animal shelter and ASPCA and tell them your dilemma. They can either advise you from their list of low cost/now cost/can pay monthly vets or they might even help you out themselves for low or no cost. Do it now!

One thing you need to do is to keep her eye clean. Use a clean washcloth every time (so not to reinfect the eye). If she is getting goopy stuff, she may have an upper respetory(sp) infection. Which means she needs to see a vet. The eye can be helped by putting a little Triple Antibiotic. This must be the plain stuff - NOT the one with pain reliever in it.
