When my kids were small, I'd use Avon Skin so Soft. Worked great and didn't leave a stain.

I have had good success with products we can buy; over here (US) they have names such as "Goof Off" and "Goo Gone". You spray it on (or use it as the directions say), and it dissolves the residue; then you launder the fabric. (Great for the residue after a sticker has run through the laundry and the paper came off, but not the sticky....!) If it is a "fine" fabric, I would test the solvent first!
I expect you can find it, if not with the laundry products, in the paint department!
