I learned the hard way to do the following: remove a sheet of paper from each notebook and write on it the name of the store where it was purchased. When the paper needed replacing for my children, I was able to match it up with the appropriate notebook without having to visit a bunch of stores on the offhand chance that they were the ones that stocked the correct items. This tends to happen more with younger classes.

PS Forgot to mention to write the name of the child on the paper, too, so you know exactly which special paper is needed!
I used to write the name of the store on each sheet, and that can't hurt, but noticed that after the fall season, most stores diminish their stock, so it became necessary to 'run around town' wasting my time and gas hunting down those special notepads.
