For weeding: If you are going to use a spray weed killer in your flower bed (between plants you want to keep) - use this handy tip:

Cut the top off an old milk gallon, slide the now cylindrical piece over your GOOD plants. This protects them from the weed killer! Saves tons of money on new plants and fancy gadgets!

I'm ready to spray for weeds again, but this time, to be safe I will put a cardboard box over my rose bushes and lilies while I spray around them. I also use rubber gloves. One year I got sick spraying my 17 rose bushes that I had at my old house. When spraying, make sure there is no chance of hitting the roots of your flowers.
