Wildlife: Lorikeets (Birmingham Zoo, AL)

This is a picture taken of the lorikeet exhibit on a recent trip to the Birmingham Zoo. These lorikeets are very tame; you can feed them their nectar, and they will perch on your shoulder or your fingers as they feed.

Aren't they beautiful. They are native to my state Victoria, Australia and every Autumn come to feed on fruit in the trees of the house next door, and I watch them through my window. These are called rainbow lorikeets, so many beautiful colors on one small bird.

What a treat it would be to hold one on my finger or to have it perch on my shoulder. I love birds, and am especially fond of any of the small parrots or parakeet-type birds.

Thank you for sharing them with us.

Sweet! My mom used to have a parakeet... not quite the same though, I presume.
