Being a vegetarian I started Estroven just as soon as I started going through the 'change' and I breezed right through it! I don't remember exactly how long I took it, something like 2 years, until I felt like I didn't need it anymore. It is the best stuff for migraines, which I've had all my life.

I never got ANY of the menopause symptoms that other women complain about. I think the instructions on the bottle are to take 2 each day but i only took one. Good luck to you! Once you get to the other side of menopause you will be very happy - these have been the best years of my life.

Zinc and Sellenium - it works and it's over the counter and it won't harm you - it worked for me within 24 hours.. Try it and let me know how you do - I believe don quai also contains these two which might be why it can work as well.

If you are taking a vitamin with niacin in it, that can increase your hot flashes.

I've never taken it but had great success with baked yams, they are really nutritious and filling. I also used wild yam cream but not as much because along with hot flashes also had memory loss, lol. Couldn't remember to use the stuff,

I went into instant surgical meno over 12 years ago, my own experience was diet helped the most. Good luck!

I guess I am a skeptic at heart :-( I went through 'The Change' in my early 40's as did my mom and my grama. My grama just 'accepted and went through it naturally' and lived to be 90. She figured 'so what if I have to change my clothes and/or bed sheets a little more often for awhile'. My mom took all kinds of prescribed immediate relief meds and only lived to be in her mid 60's. It's quite possible that some of those meds increased her demise ;-(

We seem to think in this day and age that 'immediate relief' is the only answer but I can't help but wonder if the centuries old fashioned 'just live with it' remedy isn't actually the most wise alternative. Please don't get me wrong but my dad used to say, "Remember that they call it the 'practice' of medicine.". Just listen to your own body and be sure to web search pros and cons of taking any kinds of meds or using any natural alternatives for any malady.

Oh, and ask anyone of age whether or not they sleep the entire night through ;-) I'll venture to bet, male or female, that they do not sleep like logs as we did as when we were teens ;-) Any hot flashes during the day should be accepted as a badge of courage ;-) You are not alone and the hot flashes will pass :-)

I don't know about Estroven, but I was having hot flashes day and night about 4 times an hour. I found out that for me, quitting the coffee drinking and taking melatonin at bedtime worked for me.

I was out of town for a few days, and wanted to get a good night's sleep, therefore, abstained from coffee and took the melatonin. Haven't had a hotflash since.

My mother used Dong Quai when she first started having hot flashes. She says it took them away completely. She had used the supplement bought at the local herbal store for over 4 years until it was taken off the Canadian market. There after she was placed back on "The Pill", to help relieve the hot flashes, yet her period started again, and the hot flashes continued.

My time is about due for hot flashes to begin. I will be heading back to the local herbal store and getting my own supply of Dong Quai. (Yes it is back on the Canadian Market). Why suffer when you don't have to? Enjoy life and forget about hot flashes.

Yes Yes Yes! I had a total hysterectemy 5 years ago. I was a bundle of hot flashes before and a raging fire after. I tried the "natural" way first, yams, soy, and nothing gave me relief until I started taking hormones. It took me about a week on hormones to get full relief from hot flashes and the mood swings but now I'm back to my old self.

I tell my doctor that they will have to pry them from my cold dead hands before I give them up. Believe me, my husband and children agree.

Besides...they are't 'hot flashes', they are power surges! Keeping a lighthearted, upbeat positive attitude is the best medicine for whatever ails us. Hugs

Megan8 is right! Quitting coffee can help! But that only helped me at the actual time I was drinking the coffee (I was getting hot flashes while I drank the coffee!). But since I posted this "Request" some time back, I've since gotten quite a bit of help from the Estroven. I bought the "double strength" Estroven in the name-brand box & let me tell you it worked! I was so surprised! In fact it said on the box of a knockoff brand that it takes from 2 weeks to one month for results, but for me it stopped all hot flashes after only 3 or 4 days! I will start budgeting the $20 a month it costs into my budget because I'll keep on taking it as long as it keeps working this good!

And thank God I can actually sleep through the night again without changing my wet sheets ever hour on the hour! & thankfully I don't need to keep ripping my shirt off & sticking my face in the freezer or running outside to stand on the porch in the winter anymore! *LOL* Funny but true!

* Besides quitting coffee, also stop eating hot (peppery) foods too!

The Niacin "flush" is not connected in any way to your hot flashes. It may feel similar to one, but it's not a hot flash. It's a great sign that more blood is flowing further into your system.
