What I love about this recipe is the burst of orange in an otherwise delicious apple desert. The cardamom marries well with the cinnamon. Feel free to play with the ingredients. I did and was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. It is also very festive for the coming holiday. Enjoy.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup white flour
- 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 cup soft butter
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup oatmeal
- 1/2 tsp. cardamom
- 1/4 cup coconut
- 1/8 cup dried orange cranberries
- 1/8 cup chopped dates
- 4 large apples, peeled and sliced
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Blend flour, cinnamon, oatmeal, brown sugar, cardamom then blend in softened butter until crumbly consistency.
Mix the apples, dates, coconut and dried orange cranberries together and place in the bottom of 8 inch round or square baking pan. Sprinkle topping over apple mixture.
Bake uncovered for 30-60 minutes depending on oven size and desired doneness of apples you like.
I like to have some texture to the apples so I use my little toaster oven for 40 minutes.
