Since you can make real buttercream icing in about 30 seconds, there is really no reason to try to improve canned icing, which always has an odd aftertaste.
See this taste test and recipe:
Put it in the mixer and whip it adding some good vanilla or flavor of choice. This increases the volume and sometimes I add a bit more powdered sugar. It really tastes good.

Add a half teaspoon of a very good vanilla extract to any flavor of canned frosting. It will be wonderful!

Add some sour cream to the canned frosting.
