Sadie the Garden Diva and Garden Art

This is one of our garden art decorations. I picked up an old chair at a thrift shop and repainted it, added fairy wallies and decoupaged them to chair. Added the planter and positioned "Sadie" the Garden Diva!

Sadie is bought decoration but would be very easy to make yourself.

Cat in a Box - Homeless?

We have started to kitty sit for the last 4 years. He is 5 years old and is a mixed long hair kittie. He loves to play and also loves to be alone in a quiet place of his own. When he stays here, we feels like he is homeless.

Inexpensive Fleece Dog Toy
By Kelli Mahoney

Heading out to a pet care store to buy your dog toys gets expensive. These toys are easy to make. You can use different material, make different shapes, and each toy can cost you less than a dollar! (And don't mind that the picture doesn't look as neat as when you first make it. My dog couldn't even wait for it to be finished before grabbing it.)

Ingredients:

  • Fabric Remnant of fleece (fuzzy or flannel types both work) that allows for two pieces 12"x12" for small dog, 16"x16" for medium dog, or 24"x24" for large dog.
  • Fiber fill or quilt batting
  • Cellophane or plastic bag
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Dog

Directions:

1. Cut out two squares based on the size of your dog (see ingredients for measurements). Place fabric wrong sides together.

2.Cut slits from edge inward 1 to 1-1/2 inch wide and 3 to 4 inches long around all four edges of fabric.

3.Knot each slit of fabric to the same slit on the other piece, but leave 3 to 4 inches open on one side so that you can put in the batting.

4.Whether you cut your batting to fit or stuff it with fiber fill, crumple the cellophane or plastic bag and put it in the middle of the stuffing (dogs will love the noise it makes!).

5.Once it is stuffed to your satisfaction, knot the remainder of fabric. Then, let the dog go at it. They love to throw it around or chew on the knots.

Saving Money on Hand Soap

Tips for saving money on hand soap. Post your ideas below!

Shampoo Instead of Liquid Soap

Shampoo works just as good as liquid soap or body wash and is much cheaper to buy and goes a lot farther. With this you can get a greater variety of scents. Why pay more when you don't have to?

Back To School Party

For back to school, I'm letting my 3 daughters have a party. It will be during the day. They are each allowed to invite 4 friends. The invitation will be written on the back of a school map (my two older daughters will be attending middle school, but the youngest is in Elementary school, so I'll need 2 different school maps).

On the invitation, we are asking the guests to bring their top 3 choices of what they might wear for the first day of school. When the guests arrive, they will change into their outfits, model them, change in to their 2nd outfit, model it, and then their 3rd outfit. My oldest daughter has been stressing about what to wear for the first day of 7th grade, so this should help her and everyone else decide what to wear, since they'll have feedback from friends.

Then, I will put names of teachers (from both the middle school and elementary school) on each door in the house. All the doors will be closed so it's easier to see the names taped on the doors. Everyone will be given a "schedule" and then the "bell" will ring. The guests have about 30 seconds to find the door that has the name of their "first period teacher's name on it. Then they have to find their "next class" and so on.

This party will be during the day, and we will have lunch during the party. For lunch, it will be like in a cafeteria, where everyone goes down the line and picks out what they eat.

After lunch, there will be a scavenger hunt for things on the school supply list! I will use the kids' real school supply list. The things they need (such as glue, scissors, box of pencils, etc.) will be marked with a sticker because they might pick up a pencil that wasn't supposed to be part of the hunt!

The next game is more for my middle school kids, but maybe my daughter in elementary school and her friends will want to play along. There is a box of dress up clothes. You will also need a student handbook for this game. One person dresses up and has to walk around in it for 30 seconds or so. That person is the student. Everyone else will be teachers, principals, etc. and have to look in the student handbook to see if the "student" is out of dress code. If they find nothing wrong with the outfit or can't find the rule against it in 30 seconds, the "student" gets a prize.

This should be very fun. I hope this helps you!

Dawn Original Reviews

Reviews of Dawn Original dish soap. Post your review.

Dawn for Stains

I have found that dawn dishwashing liquid is great on ALL stains! Just remove garment as soon as its spotted or when you notice it and just dab dawn dishwashing liquid on the trouble spot! Walla!

I myself have worked in a factory where I would get grease, grime and you name it on my clothes. This was when I first realized it! I would put the Dawn and OMGoodness the clothes came out so clean I found that I could wear the same clothes out and no one would ever know what a grimy mess they were or that I wore them to work! I've also tried it on coffee stains, blueberry stains, dirt and grass stains and its a miracle worker! And you can find it at most dollar stores in big bottles for $2. I keep one in my kitchen for dishes and another in my laundry room at all times! Saves on spot cleaners that sometimes don't work anyhow!

Hope you find this useful, I know I did!

Planting Tomatoes Joke

An old Italian man lived alone in the country. He wanted to dig his tomato garden, but it was very hard work as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament.

Dear Vincent,
I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me.
Love,
Dad

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Dad,
Not for nothing, but don't dig up that garden. That's where I buried the BODIES.
Love,
Vinnie

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Dad,
Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love,
Vinnie

Foundation for Your Legs

If your legs don't look so great for shorts and skirts this summer, here's an easy "makeup" to try. Mix foundation with a little body lotion and smooth over your legs. Make sure you use a thick foundation that matches your leg color (not necessarily your face color). The lotion will moisturize your legs and the foundation will cover up some of the less than pretty things.

FoodSaver Reviews

Reviews of FoodSaver Vacuum Packaging Systems. If you have one of these, please post your feedback below and be sure to mention which model you have in your post and how much it cost.

In Praise of Food Savers

Buying an inexpensive food saver will save a lot of money because there isn't as much worry about food getting wasted by freezer burn and going bad in the fridge. You can also use them to reseal potato chip bags, etc. I have used mine to ship things to my son overseas, too. Everything stays fresher and I no longer have to worry about things getting busted open and spilling on other items. A cheap one can be bought for as little as $30 at Walmart. Just think of how much you are saving in the long run.

Keeping Salt and Sugar Free Flowing

Adding a little rice to your salt shaker will keep the salt from absorbing moisture and make it easier to shake. A cracker or a piece of bread added to sugar will do the same. This will save a lot of money from having to replace these items.

I hung a bungie cord across the front to hang cookie cutters on.

Small Bugs on Houseplants

My boss took care of my plants while I was on vacation this summer. Now that I am back I see tiny little bugs crawling around on the leaves which are already peppered with brown spots from the bugs eating them. I have never had bugs on my plants before!

The bugs are tiny, about 1/32 inch or even smaller, and resemble a speck of dirt until you see them move. They do not fly that I have seen, only crawl around. They seem to prefer spider plants and do not care for african violets or my mini rose bush at all. But I have seen them on my prayer plants and my pothos.

Can you please tell me the best way to get rid of these awful things? I really do not want to lose all of my beautiful plants!

Where Can I Get Glycerin?

Coed Dance Party Games

I need ideas for a coed 13th birthday party! it's going to be a dance party and we're going to have pizza and other junk food. When people come, I'm gonna give them glow in the dark necklaces (the kind you snap). It's going to be REALLY dark and the only light is going to be a strobe light, Christmas lights and the under-cabinet lights in my kitchen (because that's where the food will be).

I was thinking of having a dance contest to the "Cha Cah Slide" and playing hide and seek in the dark (think that's lame? let me know!) and after dancing we're going to watch a movie, maybe Napoleon Dynamite or Dumb and Dumber or some comedy that's not a chick flick (cause guys will be there).

My birthday is in September, but I'm starting to plan it now. Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated, except I'm not having a luau and it's not going to be outside (the grass in my backyard is DEAD, thanks 2 my Dad! lol).

Fleas In An Apartment

We have 5 cats right now and a whole lot of fleas in our house. I'm going to be giving my cats baths all week and pick up that spot on flea treatment from the vets when I get paid on August 1st, but I need remedies for getting rid of them in my apartment. All 5 cats are indoor/outdoor cats.

I have a 14 month old son and our floors are linoleum. We have 2 couches. I gave the cats a bath last night and now I am going to give them one every night from now on and comb them out until i can get to the vets next week. Our orange tiger cat has tons of fleas, then we have 2 pure black cats, one black calico cat, and one dark grey cat.

Any advice would be great. The fleas are driving me nuts!

Warts. Make a paste of baking soda and spirits of camphor and apply every night. Cover with a bandage. Remove in morning. Removes all kinds of warts, even stubborn planter's warts that resist every and all "medical" treatments. This is from another Edgar Cayce reading.
