Oso (Yorkshire Terrier)

Oso (means bear in Spanish a big name for little doggie to go with his HUGE attitude.) He is a 10 month old Yorkie.

Oso is a pure bred Yorkie, a friend raised them and moved and this was her going away gift!

Oso likes to get his own way. Cookie (my JRT) and Oso are the best companions ever! My husband is disabled US NAVY Veteran and Cookie is so loving and adores him. These two are the best therapy and have improved his outlook 100% and no doctor or pill can give this feeling.

Give Each Cat a Towel

This is Spike -- he showed up in our carport one morning and we fell in love with him! He's an adorable orange tabby - 13 weeks old - extremely friendly and playful. He's the 3rd cat that we've adopted in the past 18 months - and they all get along very well.

The best pet tip I've found with cats is to get a couple of small towels - one for each cat. Rub the cats with their own towel and then give it to the other cat to sleep with and get used to each other's scents. Of course we still take the time to slowly introduce them to each other, but this towel method seems to make the process go much easier in the long run.

Snowman Soup for Gifts

Snowman Soup Recipe

  • 4 cups powdered coffee creamer
  • 1 cup cocoa
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 12 oz milk chocolate chips
  • 6 oz semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbsp.. vanilla powder (optional)
  • Miniature marshmallows
  • Candy canes (wrapped) or cinnamon sticks.

Mix all ingredients well. Place 3 heaping tablespoons per serving in a small plastic bag (I used enough for 2 servings) and close with a twist tie. Place candy cane or cinnamon stick in mug. Place plastic bag in bottom of mug then place a paper cupcake liner on top of bag. Fill with approx. 15 mini marshmallows. Place filled mug into a small plastic bag or wrap with plastic wrap and tie at top (I found a mug fits well into a Glad sandwich bag if you line the handle up with the corner side). Decorate with curly ribbon, etc. Attach following on a card:

Snowman Soup

"Was told you've been real good this year. Always glad to hear it! With freezing weather drawing near, you'll need to warm the spirit. So, here's a little Snowman Soup, complete with stirring stick. Add hot water and sip it slow, it's sure to do the trick"

Add a message on the back of the card for directions: Mix 3 heaping tablespoons with hot water and enjoy ! If you use enough for 2 then add a message noting there is enough for 2 mugs of soup to enjoy or share with a friend.

This was an easy and inexpensive treat for craft shows, small gifts, etc. Hope you enjoy !!

How to Make a Balloon Arch

All you need is fishing line, paper clips, balloons (1 or 2 colors), helium, weights for each end. This is easiest done with about 2-3 people. Take the fishing line and stretch it between 2 folding chairs tying to the backs of the chairs.

Have 1-2 people filling and tying the helium balloons. The other person takes 3 helium balloons and inserts the necks into the paper clip. You need to be careful not to put a hole in your balloon. The idea is the paper clip will hold the 3 balloons together.

Then simply take the attached balloons and wrap 1 balloon around the fishing line 2 times keeping the other 2 balloons still. Keep doing this until the fishing line is full of the balloons.

If you are using different colors for your balloons just twist them on the fishing line to create that spiral pattern. As soon as you move the chairs closer together the helium balloons will float and create the arch. Now cut the end of the fishing line from the chairs and attach to what ever kind of weight you want. You can use something pretty simple for this because this is not the focus of the decoration. We used foil wrapped bags of sand tied with a ribbon.

You can also create a light up heart shaped balloon to hang on your wall in much the same way. The difference is you use a string of lights instead of fishing line and you don't need helium balloons. Once you have attached all of the balloons to the lights simply form into a circle. If you hang from the ceiling in 2 places it is fairly easy to form the heart shape.

These are both really impressive to look at and can be done very reasonable on your own with out hiring someone to do it for you.

Cleaning a Smooth Top Electric Stove

Do you have a smooth top electric stove? I do and have found cleaning it aggravating with the commercial products out there (plus they are expensive).. Instead, I scrape off any raised burned on food with a single edge razor blade and then apply Cameo cleaner and use a generic "Eraser" sponge. All the darkened areas come right off without wearing you out! Much easier and less expensive method of cleaning. You can also use baking soda and an eraser when the cleanup isn't as burnt on.

Texas Rat Snake In Our House

I need some help. We are buying a house and it has snakes inside. I have seen two skins about 4 to 6 feet long, not sure what kind of snake.. We fogged the house with bug foggers and a snake was crawling out of the house between the brick and the eaves and roof of the house, my husband hit it but it went back inside. We positively identified that snake as a Texas Rat Snake. Any ideas on how to get them out? We have also seen copperheads, it was stuck to a sticky rat trap. I am so scared to even move in, almost wish we could back out of the deal.

Female Cat Peeing Everywhere

I have two cats at home, one female, the other male. The male is the younger one, and we've never experienced any problems with him. However, the older female we got from a shelter is a different story. She is very sweet and is quite the snuggler. While we enjoy her cuddlyness to the max, she has (what I think) an EGO problem.

She holds herself as second in command, next to the parent of the house, and as equals to the children. However she has the habit of 'letting it fly' whenever she pleases. I do believe we have tried everything short of using actual tools (sonic or electric alike) to discourage her from being a certain place. She has caused well over $ 1,000 in damage to our couches, and we've run through several of them just because of her. We have tried spraying anti urine and scratching chemicals. There have also been changes of the litter we use, where the cat box is located, even her diet.

A new couch? She'll pee on it.

A new (expensive) rug? She'll pee on it.
Large plastic trash bag left over night in the downstairs bathroom? She peed on that too.

Adult's bed? She peed on it.

Younger child's bean bag chair? Peed on both of them.

Newly carpeted crawspace under the stairs? There was a pillow in there, and she peed on it. Also a blanket and she peed on that too.

Cover up blankets and pillows in crawlspace with plastic tarp? She peed on it. THREE times in ONE day.

We are at the near end of our ropes, with one firm vote to take her back to the shelter. Another to clean up the mess (AGAIN) and keep her. And the last to find some possible explanation that may provide us with a way to stop her PISSant attitude.

We really don't want to get rid of her, but we will not have our house held hostage by this cat that feels the need to pee for whatever reason. Referals to a cat psyche specialist or expert is honestly what I'm looking for as soon as possible.

Thanksgiving Game Ideas

Every year our thanksgiving is dull. From someone looking in on it through the window it would look full of warmth and a huge norman rockwell feast but the problem is entertainment. People never know what do with themselves. Half of them are from the upper crust from palo alto, real into achievement, then the other half is more easy going (you get the picture). Any help on good non-competive board games or other entertainment? Usally we play trival persuit but that never goes over well. Everyone plays real cut throat and it's a drag for most of the kids and non-competive players.
