Wisteria In Bloom

This is a wisteria vine that I put out next to a utility pole in our back yard and the plant just took over the pole. As beautiful as it was, it was in danger of pulling our electric wire loose from our house, so the electric company told us it had to come down. I got this photo of the beautiful blooming vine before it came down. Sorry to see it go.

Betty (Pug)

Betty is 9 weeks old and is a pug. I got this pet on the same day my nana was to be buried, we named her Betty after her. She loved dogs.

Betty has a ear fetish, LOL! She loves to lick your ears, and she can jump really high and looks so cute in her dress. She sure has helped through this time.

Gift Basket For Guys

Having trouble finding the right gift for the men/boys this Christmas? This is my idea. Make a gift basket with a gift certificate to your local video store for a movie/video game rental (that way they can choose what they want) popcorn, various candies and sodas. It's perfect for those who don't know what to get their boyfriends, teen boys, or what not. Who doesn't like a Movie Night? Hope this is helpful.

Frugal Blogs at HustlerMoneyBlog

Hustler$ just posted a LARGE list of frugal blogs at Hustler Money Blog

You might find one of interest - although they tend to be the 401K/stocks/bonds financial wizard types rather than us - but I did put in a comment about my My Frugal Life Blogs blog here at ThriftyFun. You would be surprised - at one of these sites the author was all enthusiastic about not BUYING bottled WATER! (Elementary for a thriftyfunner, I would think!) So they could learn a few things from us, too!

Keeping Track Of The Grocery Bill When Shopping

I usually have my grocery list and check off items as I put them in my basket. Instead of a calculator, I just put a slash mark on my grocery list, for the price of the item, rounded out to the dollar. At checkout, I quickly add up the slash marks that are in groups 5 and I'm usually within $3.00 of my final bill.

Lock Cigarettes in Your Trunk to Help You Quit

If you're trying to cut down on cigarettes in an effort to quit smoking, try locking them in the trunk of your car rather than keeping them on your person or in your house. The extra effort you will have to make to actually get to them when you feel the urge should help curb the desire. I had a friend who tried this with great success. She is now smoke-free!

Honeymoon Journal

A great idea for a memorable shower or wedding gift is a pretty, but blank, journal/diary and a nice pen. Write a note to the couple, instructing them to make an entry every night or first thing in the morning for every day of their honeymoon. The bride and groom should not read the other person's entry until both have been written for that day. Not only will this be a treasured keepsake, it will help the couple to understand how the other person sees things, which may be the same way, or different from their own perception. We are both so thrilled that we did this. It will also help when I begin to scrapbook our photos and keepsakes.

Nestle's Quik For Flouring Pans

When making chocolate brownies or cake, etc. and the recipe says "grease and flour the pan" substitute Nestle's Quik for the flour. The cake, or whatever you're making, will release from the pan more easily and the extra taste on the sides is a real family pleaser (especially when you make chocolate fudge brownies).

Parvo Advice For Those Who Can't Go To The Vet

I am adding this tip because my heart hurts when I hear about parvo. I know that sometimes we all can not afford the vet and it is a hard thing when you feel helpless so if you have a pet with parvo, then this is what you can do :

Make some plain white rice and lean hamburger. Mix them up and let them cool to room temperature. Try feeding this to your pet, the rice is what they need but the smell of the hamburger will make them want to eat

Pedialyte has a good taste and will help keeping them from becoming dehydrated. This is what your pet will die from, the dehydration that parvo causes .

Also call your local Fry's food store with a pharmacy inside and ask if they carry the medicine for parvo. You do not need a prescription for this but you will have to administer it yourself. This is not very hard, you take the back of the neck and grab the loose skin where the mother would carry it and inject in the loose skin, not the muscle. If your dog is older, then you might have to go to the vet and get a saline drip for your pet.

One more thing, keep them hydrated no matter what it takes. They are not going to want to drink so it is easiest to have crushed ice and put a small piece at a time in their mouth, even if they fight it. Not too much, just a piece.

My prayers are with all of you. Good luck and God Bless.

Dishwasher Soap for Cleaning Pans

The best cleaner for dirty pans, crock pots, etc. is dishwasher soap! Just put about a tablespoon full into the pan with some hot water and within a short period of time the baked/dried/cooked on food just rinses right out! It's amazing!

Stretch Your Canned Soup

Top brand soups are getting outrageously expensive! Try extending them by adding an extra can of water and some powdered soup of whatever flavor you are using! This works well with all the varieties I have tried: tomato, chicken noodle, and anything beef for another serving of broth from the single can of soup!

Movers Stealing Belongings

2 1/2 years ago, my daughter moved back from NY to CA. The movers stole many of her things,(anything in the original boxes they could sell at flea markets) damaged others and lost or stole a good antique hat collection. She was out a lot of money. The moving industry is unregulated and very difficult to get satisfaction from. Is it too late to report the loss to the police in order to make a claim for the loss on her income tax?

Crochet Projects From Scrap Yarn

I was lucky enough to receive 4 large trash bags full of yarn. All different colors and textures. Mostly left over scraps from previous projects. I'm looking for crochet projects to make that take very little yarn. Especially Christmas ornaments/projects.I did start to make a old fashioned Black and Brights Granny Square afghan. Making sure to only use the scraps marked acrylic so when washed a wool scrap wouldn't shrink up and ruin the throw. Open for ideas for the home, holidays, fashion, pets. Can't stand to see anything go to waste.

Ideas For Doing Remote Baby Shower

I want to do a baby shower at home, for my daughter that lives in another state. Can this be done in good taste? And what is the best way to do it? I've never done a baby shower before of any kind. She is sick in bed with preclampsia, and due to deliver much soon than expected, within the next 2 weeks. There is no one to give her a shower where she is, and she really needs a lot. I want to help, but, just don't know how? All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Health Advice For Dog With Demodectic Mange

I have a 6 month old boxer that's just been diagnosed with demodectic mange. He's on invert. per vet once a day (for a while)I've changed his diet from Nutro lg. breed puppy chow to Nature's Variety (frozen raw & freeze dried kibble) no grain or pot. With this I add a raw egg and a tablespoon of salmon oil. This is all in the attempts to boost his immune system. He isn't itching or bitting himself. Just losing his hair mostly on his face/head. There are a couple of places on his body but mostly it's on his head (AROUND HIS EYES). I'm looking to treat his skin with something that isn't going to hurt his eyes. Can anyone help?

Staying with Family: A Guide To Being A Better Houseguest

Well, it was a busy summer for me, I made two trips this summer to visit my children; first to my son's house in Oklahoma City to see him get his master's degree in Business Management, and then to help out my daughter in Sacramento after our only grand- daughter was born. These were real eye openers as my daughter in law is pregnant and was suffering with the heat and my daughter worked full time up to the time of her delivery. As these trips were also mini vacation for us, I felt that it was important that I made myself as useful as possible but also I wanted to have a little fun. At my son's graduation, other relatives also from out of town were present. Here is a short list of things that you can do to be a big help and make sure things go smoothly.
