Chalupas (Mexican Casserole)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground pork
  • 1/2 lb onion (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup green pepper (chopped)
  • 1/4 pkg. taco seasoning (opt.)
  • 2 cans tomato sauce
  • 4 frozen flour tortillas
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese (shredded)

Directions

Brown ground pork, onion and green pepper; drain. Add taco seasoning and tomato sauce. Simmer until hot and bubbly. Warm tortillas slightly. Layer ingredients by placing 2 tortillas on bottom of 8x12 inch baking dish. Place 1/2 of meat mixture on tortillas, then 1/2 of cheese. Repeat with tortillas and meat mixture. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes. Top with remaining cheese in last minute of baking. Can top each piece with sour cream and corn chips.

Does anyone know exactly what kind of bread Taco Bell uses for their Chapulas? I think it's pita bread, but I am not real familar with Mexican food. Thanks for your help. Sandy
