Rate It: For my daughter's wedding, we had to do it on a budget, in a big church. We found a beautiful dress at a consignment shop, but it needed sleeves. I found a local affordable seamstress, and we had a beautiful finished product, for a fraction of the price of the dress originally. By Glinda from KY.

Foster is 2 years and 3 months old. He is a DMH cat. I volunteer with a TNR (trap/neuter/release) clinic. He came in when he was just a little love muffin ie about 4 weeks old. I was supposed to FOSTER him, and well that's how he got his name... He likes to snuggle and knead me, bother the older kitties, chase anything that moves and of course supervise any goings on. I never realized how attached you can become to a pet when you get them at such a young and helpless age. By Mic the Ick from Clearwater, FL

Tips and ideas for storing lettuce. Post yours below! Paper Towels Do you find that fresh spinach or lettuce goes bad before you can get it eaten? Try wrapping the item in a dry paper towel and then put it in a plastic ziploc bag before storing in the refrigerator. I've been using this method for years and it really does keep things from spoiling a lot longer. My Grandmother taught me this, years ago. I have used it to preserve fresh vegetables and fruits longer in the fridge. Tupperware If you have a Tupperware bowl or storage container with a top. Wash your head lettuce under ht water, core it, drain it, and put in on a paper towel in the container. It remains crisp and fresh, not so sure if this works with leaf lettuce. By Mary D. Get Rid of Excess Moisture Store lettuce with a paper towel and it will last longer. The paper towel will absorb moisture. If you are storing lettuce in a container, line the bottom of the container with a layer of paper towels. I'm single, so I can't eat an entire bag of precut lettuce salad. After my first serving, I place two non-printed, white papertowels (don't want colored ink running into my salad) inside the bag. Then I store it upside down in the fridge so the towels are on the bottom. The next time I reach for salad, those two towels are wet and the lettuce leaves are pretty dry and rust free. By Ann Don't Cut Lettuce with a Knife Never cut lettuce with a knife and when you go to store it, place it in a airtight container, it will last longer that way. By Sunshine Use A Cloth Bag Put the lettuce in damp paper towels and then a cloth bag. I bought a cloth bag specifically for keeping lettuce and it says to have the bag completely wet -- I don't do that, just be the towels are damp. My lettuce has stayed fresh up to ten days with great taste. If it is wilted, soak in cold or ice water for 10 minutes and you'll have "new" lettuce. Ziplock Bags Wash your lettuce and dry it on a towel. Once thoroughly dry, seal in a Ziplock bag. Do not store near apples, pears or bananas as the ethylene gas these fruits emit will help speed the ripening (and decay) process. By Jennifer Store In Cold Water I read here once that you should wash your lettuce then place it in a bowl of cold water with a tight fitting lid. Keep it in the ice box. Your lettuce will stay crisp. When you use it, just take out what you want drain on a paper towel. Drain off water off of unused lettuce. And replace with fresh water. This holds true for other greens and salad fixens except tomatoes. By Madeline Read More Ideas: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf196030.tip.html

Rate It: This is the easiest, cheapest, and healthiest microwave popcorn ever! Put 3 tablespoons of unpopped popcorn in a brown paper lunch bag. Roll down the top and put in the microwave for about two minutes. Every microwave is a little different so be careful it doesn't burn. If you want, you can put some butter spray on it after it is popped so the salt sticks better. Perfect popcorn!! Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf23861758.tip.html

Rate It: White Winter Sale Stockups
The Winter White Sale is a phrase most people have heard, but rare is the person who truly understands it. Linens appear on sale throughout the year, but January often touts the label of White Sale month. Why? The concept started in 1878 with John Wannamaker, Philadelphia department store mogul. It was a plan to keep the linen industry working in a time of layoffs. The term then took life, and more often than not it refers to a sale on items which are not selling well at the present time - thus the need for the sale to "move" the items. January may have laid claim to this sale due to its coincidental timing with the stores' ridding of soon to be discontinued items. Regardless of its intentions of meaning, January is a great time to stock up while these sales are invading the Sunday circulars. Editor's Note: Feel free to share your winter bargain ideas at the link below! View Full Article: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf28875298.tip.html

Rate It: Clean Your Microwave With Lemon And Water This is an easy, inexpensive way to clean the inside of your microwave. We all know how we can sometimes neglect this. I have tried every product out there, but this is the best way I have found to do it. Just put a few inches of water into a microwave-safe bowl and add a little lemon juice to it. Now, microwave this on HI for about 2 minutes. You will have condensation from this on the inside of the microwave and you just wipe it down with a paper towel or wash cloth. The food splatters, etc. will just wipe right off. I do this all of the time. I hope this helps someone! Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf30214316.tip.html

Rate It: Old Headboard As Garden Trellis I use old metal bed headboards -- wrought iron, brass, etc. -- as trellises for my garden. The veggies climb right up them, they look great and always garner comments, and they're interesting in the winter covered with snow. I have three and have picked all of them up from people throwing them up so it's a double bonus because they didn't end up in the landfill! Rate It: Mix Leftover Lipstick With Vaseline When your lipstick is running low, transfer it to a small container and add vaseline to it. You then have instant lipgloss which also acts as a lubricant for lips. In winter, my lips are never dry or chapped due in part to this lipgloss recipe. He will possibly buy it from her, in exchange for making her new kitchen cabinets. She says by bartering like this, it's going to save her from having to search for a reputable garage, all the parts and details of the car repair. All she's got to do is pick out her choice of nice cabinets for her home. Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf90951135.tip.html

Rate It: Decorate Printed Canvas Bags For Groceries My local grocery store is offering reusable canvas grocery bags for sale. I liked the idea but not the $5.99 price tag. I went down to my local charity thrift store and found lots of canvas totes with various designs or advertisements on them. I purchased nine of them for less than $3.00, brought them home and washed them well. When dry, I took an old can of latex wall paint and painted out the designs and lettering. Later I added some of my own artwork. Now I am green three ways: 1) no more disposable grocery bags filling the landfill. 2) I used up old paint that would have had to be disposed of anyway. 3) I recycled the old canvas bags and helped a charity while doing it! Rate It: Look At Men's Clothing When Shopping When looking for clothes, be unisex if you can. Women can wear most male styles nowadays and masculine clothing is much better made. In the old days, I wore guys' Levis 501's before they made them especially for women, and my first jeans jacket was a boy's size! More recently, I got a really good deal on an embroidered men's muslin shirt. I can wear it as a tunic, with the sleeves rolled up (you might want to alter the sleeves if you are particular) and with the girly PINK embroidery, it's really nice. After getting it, I went into a specialty fashion store and saw one very similar, with embroidery and the same tucks in the front for $150! (Mine was $12.) I am looking for a pattern for crochet pot scrubbers made from nylon netting. The pattern I am looking for consists of mostly single crochet stitches. I have a pattern for double crochet stitches. These are wonderful in the kitchen for dishes, pots and pans, stainless steel, just about anything you would use a scouring pad for and not messy. Rate It: BOSCH 6300 Clothes Dryer Reviews Product: Clothes Dryer Model: 6300 Manufacturer: BOSCH Request: I recently purchased a BOSCH clothes dryer after checking it out with a recent review through CONSUMER REPORTS. This dryer is computerized. It has a dial to select what type of clothing is being washed; i.e., cotton, etc. and also has buttons to start and stop it. Does any one out there have this particular model? I am curious to find out how you like it as I have had an old fashioned dryer with minimal selections on it for the last 45 years. Earth Friendly Alternatives For Valentine's Day
February 14th is Valentines' Day. Consumers will purchase an estimated 180 million roses, 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate and an incredible 188 million greeting cards (not including the kind packaged for kids). And that's just the United States. Valentine's Day is also celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Denmark, and Italy. It's too bad that behind every long-stemmed rose, heart-shaped box of chocolates and fancy dye-cut greeting card is the potential for a disturbing set of environmental and social ills. Here are some ways to say 'I love you', while loving Mother Earth. Read More: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf91591205.tip.html
