Thoroughly mix the beef, 1/4 cup of the soup, bread crumbs, egg and onion in a medium bowl. Shape the mixture into 4 (1/2 inch thick) burgers.
Heat the oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat., add the burgers and cook until well browned on both sides. Removed the burgers with a slotted spatula and set aside.
Stir the remaining soup and mushrooms into the skillet. Heat to a boil. Return the burgers to the skillet and reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 10m minutes or until the burgers are cooked through.

You will need a blender or food processor, a large bowl for mixing. Foil for covering top of baking dish. A saucepan for mixing the gravy, and a deep-sided baking dish large enough to hold 6 to 8-8 oz. patties and gravy. I usually use my roasting pan.
Put the raw meat into the large bowl, breaking into pieces.
In the blender or processor cup, add about 1/4 of the crackers at a time and; whirl into a powder; add the powdered crackers to the meat.
Next, cut the celery into about 3-inch pieces; add to blender cup. Cut the onion into chunks & also add to blender cup. Add all remaining ingredients except for the brown gravy mix and optional mushrooms: whirl until smooth. Pour the vegetable mixture over the hamburger and crackers and thoroughly mix together - using your hands works best. Divide mixture as evenly as possible into 6 to 8 patties.
Place on pre-heated, broiler pan and broil each side at the lowest position for 10 minutes on each side.
While the meat is broiling, prepare your gravy mix using only 3 cups of water instead of the usual 4 cups you would normally make it with. Bring to a boil, then lower temperature & allow to simmer for a few minutes. At this point, you can add the optional mushrooms. Just before the hamburger patties are finished, pour about 1/4 of the brown gravy into the baking dish. When patties are done, use a spatula to remove them from the broiler pan & place on top of the gravy in the baking dish. Pour remaining gravy over the top of the hamburger patties, cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes.
I know this sounds complicated but it really isn't. The beauty of it all is that you can put the cooled down patties and gravy in ziplock freezer bags to lay flat in the freezer. Our family has grown up and moved away but I still make the same amount, leave out 2 for dinner that night and freeze the rest so I won't have to cook later. Enjoy!

Mix First 5 ingredients together and shape into ovals about 3/4 inches thick. Cook patties in a skillet turning once until brown. Add onion mushroom and beef broth heat to boiling. Reduce heat cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove patties to a casserole dish and keep warm. Heat mixture until boiling.
Mix water and cornstarch together to make a paste. Add to boiling mixture with a wire whisk and whisk until gravy begins to thicken. I don't think the gravy is hearty enough for me so I also add 1 packet of brown or mushroom gravy prepared according to package directions and add to the beef broth gravy. I then pour the gravy over the patties in the casserole dish and bake at 350 degrees F until bubbly. Serve with rice, mashed potatoes or noodles.

Shape mixture into 6 patties. Depending on how you make them, you may get more then that. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes, 350 degrees F in a 13x9 or 12x8 inch baking dish. Skim off fat. Now add the rest of the soup and bake for 10 more minutes.
You may opt to fry on stove (I have only used the oven method). Brown Patties in 1 Tbsp. hot oil, drain. Add soup and water, simmer covered 10-15 minutes.
My husband and I have made extra gravy and used it over rice. We thought it was a really delicious, easy and affordable dinner. Enjoy!
