We have a new Brainstorm posted online. Basically we just wanted create a page where people could post their creative planter ideas and pictures. We have a picture of a planter in the engine compartment of an old red truck which is pretty neat. Feel free to send in a picture if you have one you are particularly proud. Today's Tips
Sandwich Spread from Leftover Meat
Here's a tip that my DH actually taught me (lol). He grew up with having his mom take whatever leftover meat (not hamburger) and put it thru the blender or food processor to grind it up. Then she used it as a lunch meat spread, I usually add mayo and mustard to it, and whatever seasonings you used on the meat adds good flavor to it.

Decrease the Boiling Time of Water
If you are in a big hurry when bringing water to a boil (supper is late!), two SMALL pots of water will come to a boil much faster than one BIG pot. Once the water boils, you can combine it into one big pot if you need that room for the pasta or whatever.

George Foreman Grill Kitchen Tip:
I am using an old Elmer's Rubber Cement Jar with brush attached to lid, that has been WELL CLEANED, to hold oil so I can lightly brush the GF Grill before plugging in to heat.
Seems to be working quite well for me! Quick and easy.

Rinsing out the Dish Detergent Bottle Cleans My Sink
The place that accepts my recyclables also requests that we rinse plastic out. One day, when I was rinsing out a bottle of automatic dish detergent, I noticed that as I began to rinse the water and soap residue out of the bottle, my stainless steel kitchen sink began to look freshly cleaned, and it left a fresh scent, too. Now, I spare my budget the expense of regular sink cleaners and only do it the "rinse and recycle" way.

Bleach to Kill Weeds and Fleas on My Patio
I have a patio made out of regular patio block in my back yard (small back yard and all is patio block). I have dogs and am concerned about odors and fleas and ticks. In warm weather I use 1 gallon of bleach mixed with 1 gallon water in a 2 gallon watering can. I then sprinkle that all over the patio and let it set a few minutes (don't let it dry completely). Then rinse down with the hose. Takes away odors and kills pests. Also kills any weeds coming up through the cracks between blocks.

The following 3 tips are from our archive.
Lighten Your Hair with Lemon Juice
To lighten your hair chem-free this summer, use pure lemon juice. I used to have my mom squeeze one or 2 whole lemons in my hair and comb through, while I was out playing in the summer sun. It worked wonderfully.

Using Your Bread Machine in the Summer
To have homemade bread during the summer without heating up the house, use your bread machine outside with an extension cord or cook pitas or hoe cakes on your griddle

Mosquito Problems, Decorate with Geraniums
If you have a problem with mosquitos like many of us do in the summer, use potted geraniums to decorate your deck, porch, or outside sitting area this will keep them at bay.

Featured Feedback: RE: Where Can I Buy Diatomaceous Earth?
Warning! I just read on another site that you don't want to use diatomaceous earth that is for swimming pools: "DE sold for swimming pool filters is ineffective for insect control because it has been heated and chemically treated. It won't kill insects and it is very dangerous to breathe."
Also, if you are using DE for garden insect control, be careful, because it will kill beneficial insects too! Don't use it too often.

Featured Feedback: RE: Plastic Bag Rug
I once saw a pattern for a shopping bag using plastic shopping bags that were cut into strips and crocheted together.
Would anyone have this pattern? Or instructions on how to do this?
Thanks,
Maggie
Editor's Note: There isn't a pattern here but another reader recommended the following link which has a picture.

Need Help Rearraning and Keeping My Room Clean
My room is soooooo messy. How do I teach myself to keep it clean? Also, it's a little kiddish, if you know what I mean. I am 11 years old and going into middle school and I want to have a totally different and rearranged room by the time school starts. Can I have some tips on ways to do it and maybe even colors that are "in style" to paint my walls? Well, actually I sort of have a blue, green, and purple theme to my room. So do you got any ideas what I could do with those colors? I need help! Seeya, Kristina

How to Raise Creative Kids
By Susan Stump
"Where did he come up with that?" Kids often amaze us with their imaginative ideas, and we should give ourselves a pat on the back for playing a role in this development. Innovative thinking is essential for success in school and in life, and it's our job as parents to nurture our kids' innate desire to be creative. Inventive play fosters original thinking, an asset when children are confronted with new situations. By providing activities that use their creativity and imaginations, we are giving our children an important tool to deal with life down the road, and it doesn't have to drain our wallet!
