and if all else fails: Tylenol PM Vanilla is great if taken at least an hour before you plan on going to sleep. Make sure you don't have to get up for at least 8 hrs after taking. AND it is non-habitforming. Only use it when all else fails though :)

Try using an eyemask at night. My neighbors keep on porch lights for extra security and even that light can keep me awake. Wearing an eyemask has helped.

I take my daily calcium need with a large complete b and I sleep restfully.

First and foremost, get a really good mattress and pillow. Without those two, nothing else does any good.

Melatonin has been a tremendous help to me too.

Of course, I'm careful about drinking caffiene after noon.

Lets see...
1. camamile tea in the evening.
2. hot bath or shower before bed.
3. warm milk
4. no caffeine after noon.
5. limit alchahol in the evening
6. make sure room is dark, cool & quiet
7. don't do stimulating activities before bed (ie computer, TV, reading)
8. don't use your bed for anything but sleep (& intimacy).
9. have an established wind-down routine for at least 30 minutes before bed (e.g., shower, fix next day's lunch, feed pets, etc). This helps your mind/body get used to the idea of sleep.

That's just a start. The National Sleep Foundation has tons of information & suggestions. Excellent website. It has interactive tools, many articles about sleep, facts&myths, studies done on sleep, when is it a significant problem to talk to a doctor about, etc. Check it out: http://www.sleepfoundation.org/

Best way to improve your quality of sleep is to buy Melatonin at a health food store. It's all natural since your brain produces it, BUT any tiny little sound and your brain quits producing it. Even if you don't wake up, your brain quits producing it. You won't wake up feeling groggy, just more alert.

Hello,

Lettuce-surprisingly enough- has sleep inducing properties. Eat some for supper.
Walnuts too are very good.(1oz is recommended).
Or Honey in warm milk.

L-Glutamine is a good solution. I put 1,000 mg. in a small amount of yogurt and eat before bed. The powdered L-glutamine is much cheaper than buying it in capsule form.

Trouble sleeping due to light noises? Just use ear plugs to keep out these sounds.
