Trixie (Papillion)

Trixie is a 2 year old female Papillion. I bought her from a breeder in Kansas when she was 9 weeks old. She LOVES to play, especially fetch sticks and jump over our horse jumps we have set up in our yard. She would make a great agility dog!

Homemade Winter Scarves That Look Like New Mall Merchandise

You can find these large attractive plaid print fabrics at either fabric stores (of course) or Walmart and with only one yard of fabric, you can make a gorgeous and warm winter scarf! Just buy one yard of your chosen flannel fabric and get an inexpensive scarf pattern. It only involves sewing in a straight line. They look great with any coordinating coat, keep you warm on cold days and everyone thinks you purchased it new at the high end store at the mall. Unbeatable!

Three-Leaf Clover Pencil Holder
By Teri Clark

Nothing sparks a child's imagination like a toilet paper tube. I've seen kids use them for telescopes and binoculars, to roll marbles through, to use as wands, and much more. The most creative use I've found, however, is to turn them into something extremely useful - a pencil holder!

Keeping Yarn from Tangling

When I'm getting ready to knit or crochet something I take a small coffee can and put a hole in the lid, drop my ball of yarn in and feed the loose end through the hole before casting on my stitches.

This keeps the yarn from tangling up while working on my project.

Add Value to Your Home

Tips and ideas to add value to your home. Post your ideas.

Homeowners can add value to their homes in many ways. One way could be, by adding on a home office, whether it be small or a whole room dedicated to it. Other ways, could be by adding a screened in porch, a sunroom or a deck. Redoing your lawn or windows. The possibilities are endless.

Adding Interest to Your Garden

Tips for adding interesting decor to your garden. Post your ideas.

Various accessories in your garden or lawn, can make it beautiful as well as interesting and be great conversation pieces. Some example are concrete statues or fountains, decorative or homemade stepping stones, colored gazing balls reflecting the surroundings, an old child's wagon or bicycle with a basket (which could hold potted plants). Pieces of old machinery from years past can accentuate, as well. Just use your imagination.

Solution for Dry Hair

For dry hair, a solution is as close as your refrigerator. Get that jar of mayonnaise and spread it over your hair until thoroughly saturated. Wrap a towel around your head and leave mayonnaise on for 1/2 hour. Wash until all signs of the mayo are gone. Your hair will be clean and shiny.

Wooden Window Shutters

I am in the process of finally moving my bedroom to the lower level of my home (kids are getting older). I am going with an Adirondack Log Cabin look. I have been collecting things over the years for the project. I am now ready to start painting. I have 1 huge garden window, 1 picture window, and 4 other big windows plus a fireplace with brick all the way up to the ceiling in the middle of the 4 side windows. So I have a lot of windows to cover.

I would like to make or purchase wooden window shutters that will bi-fold when opening or closing. I would love any input that someone could give me, I'm stumped on this one. I'd like to make them. I've had no luck trying to find them online, at least not what I'm looking for, or I'm not looking in the right place.

Thanks!
Lynn from CT

Preventing Swollen Feet

I am going to a wedding in august. It will be hot, the church has no air conditioning. I have 2 questions and I would really appreciate any help.

First, what can I eat that will not make my feet swollen before the wedding? I know that sounds strange but i have sandals and I noticed the last time I wore them my feet were swollen. I know the heat makes it worse but i am sure it also has to do with what I ingest. Any ideas?

My second question is how do I make these sandals shiny without buying shoe polish? They are leather and have kind of a shine to them but i would think there would be a way to make them shinier. Maybe floor polish?
