Fall Themed Shower Curtain

Approximate Time 2 hours

Supplies:

  • fabric
  • ribbon
  • needle
  • thread
  • scissors

Instructions:

First measure your shower, then cut your fabric to size. Fold over at top for the rod to go through. You will need a long piece of fabric and the short piece as in picture or you can just use 1 long piece if you want. Then sew on your ribbon. you can make any theme you want. I made one for every holiday using seasonal fabric. I hand sew mine but of course you can use a sewing machine. (This is the outside curtain NOT the actual shower curtain.)

Niño (Terrier Mix)

Niño (Nin-yo) is 2+ years and a Terrier Mix. This is the other portion of my heart, Niño (Spanish for "little boy"). The breeder told me I was getting a pure bred poodle and I certainly paid the price, literally. But, 2 years later, I couldn't be a happier mama! Niño every dog owner's delight: playful, loving, obedient, attentive, loyal, and a great 2-legged dancer!

For fun, he likes to give kisses, run in the park, have his belly rubbed or scratched, play with other dogs (chase and be chased), chew yummy bones, sleep next to or on the pillow above his mama, and of course, prompt a never-ending game of run, retrieve, and return a toy he's set it in your lap that he'll continue to nudge until you finally give in. Besides, who can say no to such a persistent, fun-loving spirit?

Niño is already ready for Halloween this year. He is modeling his homemade fur cape and matching ankle cuffs. After all, no dog (regardless of gender) can have too many fur "coats!"

Coffee Can Bird Feeder

I took an empty coffee can, painted it orange then sponged another layer of a different shade of orange to look like stripes on the body. The face was cut out of wood scrap with a hole cut out for the mouth and then stapled the plastic lid to the wood. I painted a face to match the body. I used L-brackets to attach a string to the top to hang the bird house. The tail is cut from foam and painted to match the body. The colors could be painted to suit your taste. I hung mine out in my yard and it has a nest inside. To clean out the bird house, just take the lid off, clean then put the lid back on.

Paper Napkin Craft - Three Ways

I know it might seem a little early for Christmas projects but I thought I would post this one early. Here are three different ideas using the same beverage sized napkin. Starting at the top, I used this napkin both on the frame as well as inside the frame. I put this out each Christmas as I love old-world type decorations. Continuing clockwise, I am just starting to use the same napkin on a ceramic tile (decoupaged). The bottom one is a Christmas card using the same napkin. All three ideas are using the decoupaged method of gluing paper onto different surfaces. All are very easy and lots of fun, not to mention, you can be very creative!

Today's Tips:

Collect Free Posters

Collect posters anywhere you can get them. Many companies supply them to stores for advertising. If you can't use them to decorate with, they make great wrapping paper.

Hairspray For Lice Prevention

If you find lice to be going around at school, a good way to safeguard your child, or to try to, is to spray his or her hair with hairspray. You can also use hair gel or any other kind of hair product. The lice are repelled by the chemicals, and they rather like clean hair that can be penetrated. So don't react by overwashing!

Deworm Your Kittens

If you decide to get a new kitten, either now or in the near future, please make sure you have the new baby dewormed.

I have just added another new one to the menagerie and was going a little crazy as she was determined that she had to be fed every time someone went near the refrigerator. When I phoned the vet, they suggested she be dewormed. The medicine is not expensive, it cost me $7.07 (cdn) and there is enough there to deworm 10 kittens! (an added bonus is that a free syringe is supplied and whatever is in this stuff the kitten seemed to think it tasted wonderful!)

Use Sale Items In Unexpected Ways

Sometimes you can find things in unexpected places and put to unexpected ways of using. By chance I popped into a Pottery Barn Store, and found they were having a big sale. There I fell in love with a pair of oblong paisley Indian pillow covers which were marked down to $10.49 from $44.00! and they were just the right size color to cover the worn ARMS of my little living room sofa. It was a splurge, but considering slipcovers cost a bundle, a savings for me!

Update and Print Personal Medical History

After many trips to the ER, I decided to use my Microsoft Word and memory from my visits and put them to good use. I put my name, address, insurance info, next of kin, as much medical info about my health, allergies, doctors names, driver's license, SSN, etc, and listed all my medications and dosages. When I have an emergency, I print it out, keeping it updated, and take it with me. Also, I print a copy to take to the doctors offices so they know what my other doctors are prescribing.

I have had doctors and ER tell me they appreciate it and wish more people would do this. Of course, some don't want to read but if you can't remember at the time, this is very helpful. It also is appreciated when I tell them they can keep the copy to put in my file.

Use Tennis Balls To Fluff Down Coats

I just read about using tennis balls in your dryer when you dry pillows to let them dry evenly. This also works with down coats.

Frugal Bookmarks From Envelopes

To make a bookmark cheaply and easily, take any old envelope and cut off either the left or right bottom corner of the envelope in a triangle shape. Then you have a small "sleeve" that slips over any book or magazine page; it saves books by not having to fold down a corner and makes use of an old envelope that, most likely, would be throw away anyway!

Angel Food Ministries

When I worked part time at my Church, we received may calls for help with food to feed the family. We only had so much available and it was never enough to meet the great need. This is one of the options we offered to help people who were not able to get the help from us on a ongoing basis. Hopefully, this will be a great place for others to also get more food from their food budget.

Angel Food Ministries works to provide grocery relief to communities throughout the US. It is completely free to participate and there are no income limitations or forms to fill out. The non-denominational program works with local community churches and organizations to provide boxes, or "units", of food to people at the cost of $25 per unit. Each month, your local host site will collect orders and payment, then about 2 weeks later you bring your own box to pickup your order. To find a host site in your town, go to: http://www.angelfoodministries.com/hosts.

The unit contents are different each month, and each unit is generally considered to be at least a $50 dollar value. To see what this month's menu is for your area, go to: http://www.angelfoodministries.com/menu.

Once you purchase a unit either for yourself or someone else, you also have the option of three special packages as add-ons to your order, each for a substantial discount over grocery store prices.

Cleaning Geothermal Home Heating System

I have an open loop geothermal heating system. It was supposed to have an "acid flush/wash" a year ago. My neighbor does commercial heating and cooling and said if he had a little more information on how to do this he would do it for me.

I have spent quite a bit of time on search engines but can't find anything that deals specifically with with open loop geothermal home heating systems. Does acid flush mean a way/system for cleaning the heat exchanger? Can anyone tell me how or where to get information on this subject? I was told that if you don't do this maintenance that it could wreck your compressor or something like that. How often should this acid wash be done? I am recently widowed with a very small fixed income. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me.

Getting Rid of Dirty and Smokey Smell In Carpet

I recently moved into an apartment. At first everything smelled like smoke. Gradually the smell is slowly fading away, but it's still hanging around. My main question is how to get rid of a dirty smell in the carpet? It's new carpet but it smells like dirty old tennis shoes. I cleaned the carpets 4 days ago and the smell is still here. It smells in the living room and in the bedroom. My A/C was leaking and a portion of the carpet was soaking wet for a couple weeks before management finally got maintenance to come check it out. Is it possible there is mold under the carpet? Also if I leave my clothes basket sitting in my bedroom, when I move it the carpet under it is damp. Any suggestions on how to get rid of dirty tennis shoes smelling carpet would be GREATLY appreciated!

Pink And Blue Wedding Decorations

My Fiance and I are planning a wedding for April 2009. My favorite color is pink, and his is blue. We were wanting to incorporate that into our wedding. Pink and Blue with white and silver accents. Any ideas for colors for dresses? He of course wants the guys to have blue, and I want pink for the girls. How can I mix the two without looking tacky? Flowers for the girls will be a single blue tulip or lily, a single pink rose, and 4-5 white daisies-going small bouquets for them. ALL HELPFUL IDEAS WOULD BE MUCH MUCH APPRECIATED! THANK YOU!
