Chewbacca (Shetland Sheepdog)

This is our dog Chewy, named for Star Wars' Chewbacca. He is a Shetland Sheepdog with one blue and one brown eye, he just turned 6 years old on June 20th and we've had him since he was 7 weeks old! He is definitely a member of the family that does not realize he is a dog and not a human, but were not gonna tell him! :)

Have a little everyday fun! Surprise a member of your family that may not be having the best day by doing something no one can resist, decorate the family pet!!A little something to make someone smile!

And for fun? Well obviously he likes to party! He loves getting TPed in crepe paper and getting into trouble, watching 24 with us and barking with the countdown. He thinks he is part wolf and has the howl to proof it and going after his arch nemesis the fly keeps him busy! Thanks for the contest!

Feed Your Plants - Daylilies

For best results, don't forget to feed your plants, too. Especially when you can't water them as often as you like with water restrictions and lack of rain. You can buy a cheap plant food at just about any discount store.

I took these at an outing at my brother and sister-in-laws house with my kids.

Ethiopian Flag Cake

I make a lot of cakes. I decided that since I was going to an Ethiopia Celebration that I would make something exciting. So I made an Ethiopian Flag. The cake is vanilla made from scratch. Then I made homemade butter icing and created this beautiful flag. The only problem we had is we didn't want to cut the cake.

Reusing AOL CDs & Computer Disks

We all have lots of old floppy disks and cds around thanks to AOL and CD Burners. Do you have any good uses for them?

Coasters

The disks that I will never I use as coasters. I have one by night stand and one by computer to place a coffee cup or soda on. It prevents lots of discolored circles on wood furniture. Also makes a good mirror too!

Editor's Note: You can also decorate the CDs with contact paper or paint to match your decor.

Using Clear Vinyl Pocket Organizers

If you're short of room around your house, try using clear vinyl pocket organizers in:

1. In the linen closet to hold items such as lip balm, thermometer, band-aids, sample sizes of medications, tweezers, nail clippers, etc.

2. In the coat closet to hold items such as gloves, sunglasses, scarves, fold up umbrellas, etc.

So everything can be easily found by anyone looking for them.

Golfer at the Dentist Joke

For all the golfers out there or their patient, loving wives...

A man and his wife walked into a dentist's office. The man said to the dentist, "Doctor, I'm in a big hurry!" I have two buddies sitting out in my car waiting for us to go play golf." So forget about the anesthetic and just pull the tooth and be done with it -- I don't have time to wait for the anesthetic to work!

The dentist thought to himself, "My goodness--this sure is a very brave man, asking me to pull his tooth without using anything to kill the pain."

So the dentist asked him, "Which tooth is it, sir?"

The man turned to his wife and said, "Open your mouth, Honey, and show the doctor which tooth hurts."

Barkeeper's Towels

As I have gotten older, I have discovered the best dishrag for me is actually what is known as a barkeeper's towel. It's certainly bigger than a dishrag but more of a square shape than a tea towel, and is made of really absorbent cotton with a great nap to it.

I have large expanses of countertop in my kitchen and I found by throughly saturating a barkeeper's towel and using it as the dishrag to wipe off countertops, I could accomplish the task much quicker and easier. When I am cooking, I keep a bowl of warm water with a small amount of dishwashing product in it set in the bottom of the sink which makes it so easy to wipe up the mess I have made.

When I am done with it, I soak it overnight in the washer or run it through with a bleach load. I always start with a fresh one each morning and have never regretted doing away with the putzy sponges or thin dishrags I had.

Put Lockers in Your Garage

If you're about to start or have in mind some future remodeling. This idea might be for you. In your garage, install built in lockers, one for each of your family members. So when they get out of your car, they can leave their jackets, backpacks, anything extra in the locker, rather than having to take on into your house and possibly leave or forget to take with them the next day. Let the lockers be the last thing they open before getting in your vehicle.

Funeral Costs Joke

A woman's husband dies. He had $30,000 to his name. After everything is done at the funeral home and cemetery, she tells her closest friend that there is none of the $30,000 left.

The friend says, "How can that be?

The widow says, "Well, the funeral cost me $6,500. And of course I made a donation to the church. That was $500, and I spent another $500 for the wake, food and drinks, you know. The rest went for the memorial stone."

The friend says, "$22,500 for the memorial stone? My gosh, how big is it?"

"Four and a half carats," she replied.

Good Pet Supply Websites & Catalogs

I recommend the company "Doctors Foster & Smith" for your pet care needs. They charge a fraction of what most pet care stores as well as what veterinarians charge. The web site is http://www.drsfostersmith.com.

By Robin

Editor's Note: We also use Drs. Foster & Smith for pet supplies. They have help online and have given good, reliable service. Having said that, it's very important to have a reliable vet to take your pet to as well.

Saving Money on Steel Wool Pads

Steel Wool Soap Pads

Stretch your steel wool soap pads by tearing off a piece from a pad that accommodates the size needed to scour and then discard after use. There is less waste. Each time you scour, you'll have a new mini scouring pad. And you'll never have to use a scrambled egg ridden pad again.

Scuff (Skid) Marks off a White Wall

In my apartment that I am renting, there are black skid/scuff marks on the walls from previous tenants. I want to remove these marks.

I know it's not dirt because it won't come off with just plain water. How did the scuff marks get there in the first place? I would guess that when people were moving in and out, something must have 'scratched' against it to make it black? Or did someone throw a shoe and leave a mark like that?

What do you suggest for me to remove these hideous black marks off my wall?

Thanks.
Any feedback is appreciated :)

Looking for Homemade Marinades and Sauces

I haven't bought any stir-fry or marinades for ages and don't intend to... as I am trying to cook from sratch as much as possible but the only one I have that I can make from scratch is a soy/garlic/sweet stir-fry sauce which I double as a marinade. To be honest, I'm rather tired of using the same one each time I cook marinated steak or stir-fries.

When I see Teriaki sauce and stir fry sauces at the supermarket I often wonder if I could duplicate them at home... but the ingredients are often quite obscure as some of them use artificial flavouring to achieve the taste.

I would appreciate any tried and true recipes any of you may have to achieve these sauces... Please don't use brand names of ingredients as I live in Australia and while we can get these ingredients, it helps if you say what the ingredient is rather than the brand name.

Getting Mechanical Grease Off a Suitcase

On a recent flight from NY to Denver, my brand new suitcase got stuck "behind" the luggage carousel and is now covered with grease. It is your typical mechanical grease and the suitcase is your typical poly canvas blend. How can I get the grease out of my new suitcase so it looks new again?

Free Mulch from the City - Could it Carry Diseases?

Could someone, anyone, solve this argument between my boyfriend and myself about free mulch obtained from the city? I received a large (very large!) pile of free mulch from the city from their wood chipper after they had trimmed the limbs away from the power lines. My boyfriend is skeptical that the mulch might carry diseases and kill plants around which I have spread it. Does anyone know if this is a strong possibility? And, if this may be true, is there any way to treat the mulch to control any disease?

All comments would be appreciated!

How To Put A Hole In A Glass Jar

I bought an incense burner that is a jar and I would like to put a small hole close to the bottom for the scent to come out instead of having the incense coming out the top and having ashes everywhere. Any ideas on how to do this without breaking the glass?

Easy, Do-It-Yourself Soil Testing
By Ellen Brown

Maintaining good soil is your most important task as a gardener-even more important than maintaining your plants. If you're starting a new garden or your plants and flowers just aren't growing well despite your best efforts, then having your soil tested probably makes sense. Sending your soil to a laboratory, however, can be both costly and time consuming and unless you're a trained agronomist, the results are often difficult to understand. Fortunately, there are easy ways to test your soil at home. Of course, they are not as scientifically accurate or exacting as laboratory tests, but they will provide you with a basic understanding of your soil.
