Poppy Seed Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. poppy seed
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1 /2 cups oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp. butter flavoring
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tsp. almond extract
  • milk
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar

Directions

Combine first 5 ingredients in bowl, mixing well. Add next 4 ingredients with 1 1/2 tsp. almond extract and 1 1/2 cups milk, beating well. Pour into 4 greased and floured 4x8 inch pans. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes. Blend confectioners' sugar with 2 Tbsp. milk and 1/2 tsp. almond extract. Drizzle over loaves.

Is the measurement for the almond extract correct? Usually this amount is less than the vanilla since almond extract has a strong flavor. Thanks.

    Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees F. Makes 2 loaves. When done and still warm, I mix 1/4 cup orange juice and 1/4 cup powdered sugar and pour over the bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup plus 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 Tbsp. poppy seeds
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 tsp. butter flavoring
  • 1 1/2 tsp. almond flavoring

Directions

Mix all together. Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees F. Makes 2 loaves. When done and still warm, I mix 1/4 cup orange juice and 1/4 cup powdered sugar and pour over the bread. (Lightly - not too much).

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 cup poppy seeds
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup evaporated milk

Directions

Beat eggs, sugar and oil and mix well. Add vanilla and poppy seeds. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together and add to above mixture alternately with evaporated milk. Bake in 2 greased and floured loaf pans at 325 degrees F for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand 5 minutes. Remove from pans and cool on wire rack. Yield: 2 loaves.
