What Breed Is Roxy?

Roxy is around 5 weeks old and a mutt of some sort. I got Roxy on January 16th. She found in a dumpster when she was only 10 days old by my uncle's coworker. She called and asked us to get some formula and a bottle and we've been under a Vet's supervision ever since.

She likes to play with the call, play in the grass and TUG-A-WAR! The vet said she's healthy, she's been dewormed and got her first immunization on Monday. She's approx 5 weeks old and weighs almost 4 pounds.

How big do you think I'll be? What breeds do you see in me?

Decoupaged Paperweights

These are so simple and easy and fast. I find pretty pictures from just about every where (copy to size you need) and then just glue on stones, glass stones, sea shells, etc. I always coat with several coats of water resistant varnish.

Use Wite-Out as a Temporary Glue

In a pinch, a drop or two of Wite-Out or a similar product makes a great temporary paper to paper glue.

Use Film Canisters For Storing Small Items

If you're still using an ordinary 3.5mm point-and-shoot camera, hold onto the film canisters after you drop off a roll. They make excellent containers for beads and other small items.

Tips for Long Lasting Carpet

When my husband and I purchased our home we were buying carpeting for it. The store that we bought it at had us attend a carpet seminar to see a movie about how carpet was made and to discuss the best carpet for our purpose. It really made it easier to decide what to buy.

The most beneficial thing that we learned was not to run around the house barefooted or in our stocking feet, there is salt in your body and it comes out through the feet and will stain your carpet quicker.

Also when you see a spot, clean it right away. This has worked for us over 31 years. We have only replaced the carpeting once, only because we were tired of the color. Keep a pair of slippers handy, so when you come into the house, you can take your shoes off and put on your slippers.

Buying Textbooks Online

My Son is going to college and we are on a tight budget. We found a site that has used books that are cheap.

He needed a book for his class and it cost $151.00. We went on this website and got the book for $60.00. Make sure it is the correct edition and any numbers.

Rainy Day Craft Box For Children

I used a hat box, but any box will do. Place the following in the box:

  • Scissors
  • School glue
  • Glue stick
  • Watercolor set
  • Colored pencils
  • Construction paper
Take a walk around your home and collect things that would make good collage materials:
  • Cotton balls
  • Empty toilet paper rolls
  • Toothpicks
  • Chopsticks
  • Lids from various jars
  • A couple of paper towels
  • Dried beans
  • Dried pasta
  • Dried rice
  • Old magazines
  • Comics
  • Costume jewelry
  • Scraps of fabric
  • Beads
  • Yarn
  • Used envelopes
  • Used labels
  • Greeting cards
Have your children help you think of ways of organizing their art supplies (empty yogurt containers with lids, zipper baggies, etc.)

Remember to ensure that the box remains well-stocked. Whenever you (or your children) are about to throw something away, consider putting it in the box instead.

Rainy days won't be quite so dreary anymore. :)

Walmart Will "Price Match" On Sale Patterns

If you live closer to a Walmart than to your local fabric store that is having a great sale on patterns (like JoAnn's fabrics)... OR, if your local fabric store is "picked over" and doesn't have many patterns left in your size, simply take the ad up to the register with you (after you've shopped) and Walmart will honor other stores ads for Simplicity or McCalls brand patterns (and other things too!) Just be sure to bring the ad in with you and make sure the sale is STILL going on.

Sprinkle Colored Sugar on Hot Cereals for Kids

I had such a hard time getting my grandson to eat his oatmeal or cream of wheat. I finally shook a little colored sugar sprinkles on top and poof, the oatmeal was gone. Each time we have hot cereals, I pick a different color and just sprinkle enough to make it pretty!

Beautifully Peeled Oranges

Place oranges in hot water for about 45 minutes - 1hour; remove from water and let cool until you are comfortable handling them by hand. Take a tablespoon (or teaspoon) and begin peeling the orange from the navel, the skin should peel leaving all the white on the peal and virtually none on the orange. This is an old restaurant trick I learned long ago.

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

I walked into my sister's kitchen and found my nephew, Mitch, having a snack.

"Where's your mother?" I asked.

"She said she was going to take a shower. Just a second and I'll see."

Mitch went to the kitchen tap and turned the hot water on full blast.

An indignant yell came from above.

Mitch calmly turned off the tap and said, "Yep, she's in the shower."

Removing BBQ Sauce Stain on Wool Jumper

My son placed an unfinished Kebab on top of his light blue school jumper. Does any one know how to remove Kebab leaked stains? The jumper is a wool knitted jumper and the stain is barbecue sauce based.

Military Themed Christmas Tree

My son is an 8th grader in military school (his choice). I promised him a military theme for next year's Christmas tree. I've started buying little action figures and camouflage vehicles at the 99cent store, but they are mostly olive drab colored. I may enhance them with silver or gold paint but need other 'crafty' creative ideas for decorations that will stand out on a green tree. Or should I get a campy silver tree (ugh!) and keep camo decorations as is? Help!

Helping Chihuahua Adjust to New Home

I just took in a chihuahua that is about 2 to 3 yrs old because the owner was moving. He is a male and he won't eat or go to the bathroom. I have had him only 1 day. My other dogs, a mini Italian Greyhound and a Dobi/Rot mix have excepted him with no problem. If you hold him he's fine, he will just lie in your lap. If you put him down, he goes under the table. please help me.
