RE: What is This Plant?
Strawflower-- They are very hardy and I have them in my garden even after many frosts they still survive. They close up at night and reopen the next light of day.

RE: What is This Plant?
It looks like an aster. I have a purple aster in my backyard. It's Native to this area - so it will grow anywhere. The flowers on my plant look nothing like the asters I buy from nurserys - it makes me think it's a different variety. It's very hardy - you should be able to move this from the edge of your walkway to a more suitable location. It sure is pretty!

I googled it -- Helichrysum is another name, but strawflower is what most people call them.

RE: What is This Plant?
Sometimes these are called "everlastings" too. There is a botanical name as well, but I can't recall it. Perhaps you could google strawflowers and see what comes up?
