Holding Up Liberty Spikes

I want to get some liberty spikes about 3 inches and was just wondering what would be the best stuff to use to keep it all up?

Use sugar water. Dissolve some sugar in some warm water and apply to your hair. This will create a really great base. Garnier makes hair putty which works pretty well too. Be sure that you put the majority of your chosen styling product at the bottom of each spike, close to the roots. The rules of physics apply to cool hair do's as well... if the top is too heavy and not supported well, your hair will fall over.

Try glue also, but be careful as it will destroy the texture and quality of your hair. If this is a style you planning on wearing for a few months rather than a few hours, wash your hair a lot less... once a week or every other week, when it starts to attract bugs (hehe) and forget the conditioner all together.

To get this mess out, use a bit of baking soda when washing your hair.

It's not as environmentally friendly, but aerosol extra hold hair spray - cheap stuff - is usually the best. Also, it helps if you don't use conditioner or anything that will make your hair silky and fine. You want some coarseness to the hair for maximum height and hold.

I did my sister's hair for Halloween once (she was Vivian from Young Ones) and we used Aussie Freeze spray and a hair dryer. Just keep adding layers and drying. Hope that helps.

Hi Newman,

My son is 15 and has an awesome mohawk/liberty spikes that are about 8 inches. He uses Rave hairspray and/or Elmer's glue. He has also heard that Aqua Net hairspray works well. We are in the States so I don't know if you have those brands. If you use glue, make sure it will come out with water! Elmer's glue is a white glue that school children use.

Good luck!
